Well I personally dont care about all of it, only where our licences/forums are concerned and I dont care enough to talk about it all day or care if others are. As long as people arent insulting each other like within that thread I dont see any problem, it is within its own forum and the only problem there is will be when others are ranting over vb in non-vb related threads.

I still see this place as an admin resource and it still is fun regardless of all the serious vb talk going on, surely it will just die off till VB/IB starts something else worth talking about.

And no I dont have a problem with anyone having a problem with these vb4 topics.

 

Yeah, I see where you come from and I agree with ya'. Though many people don't see it as 'fun' anymore, hence why some are not even bothering to visit this place anymore which once they did.

 

Theres only one person I have noticed that doesnt seem to be active as much here anymore and that is Ryan, well Tom too but isnt he banned :shrug:

It will all blow over eventually most likely and the people who only talk about VB/IB will either leave then or join in with the admin discussion.

 

Tom isn't banned anymore, unless he got his cover blown.

Would just proper for people to be able to refrain from personal name calling to justify their ill feelings. That is where it gets out of bounds.

The vBulletin issues are valid topics for an admin-related site and they should not be stopped.

However people should remember this is an admin discussion site and not a "hate" site, some recent posts probably crossed the line a little.

Those who have no interest in the vB topics - that's fine, so start some topics you ARE interested in and see who replies.

 

No one is asking for them to stop talking about vB, just for the bashing to cease or constructive criticism as some call them.

I don't HAVE to start any threads, I actually never do, why? I prefer to start a thread when I have a valid question or need help. That or I may be extremely bored.

 

The thread title is suggesting the topics should be stopped for 24 hours. I'm saying that's a bad idea.

I hate that word "bashing". I tire of seeing it. If a company deserves to be "bashed", in the opinion of the poster, then that's fine.

I also hate the fact that criticism has to be "constructive". Someone who is dissatisfied should be able to say so, without being obliged to propose alternative ways of dealing wit things, which is what "constructive" actually means.

I think the issue is that some people turned their posts into rather ugly with some personal comments, and it's that that I believe needs to be stopped.

If you say "no bashing" you are dangerously close to saying "do not post critical comments about the comapny" which would be wholly wrong.

As much as you hate it, bashing is going on. Criticism should be constructive? I don't see why people should resort to name calling and , seriously aren't we all admins?

Isn't bashing an attack to a group of people or to an individual our of prejudice or 'hatred'?

It's really not my fault some don't seem to grasp what no bashing means and tend to misinterpret, or is my English wrong? Should I buy Inglés sin Barreras?

 

what you lot are doing in this thread is bashing except behind peoples back which is sneaky. Like i said, if your not happy reading threads in this area ignore people. Nobody forces you to read but this is a case of you love to hate scenario. You say you hate these discussions but yet you are involved.

I'll say again, people have lost out on a lot so it's understandable that they will vent inbetween posts. Don't mistake bashing for constructive criticism or valid concerns because your sick of hearing the same thing. Remember, customers don't visit jelsoft so this fiasco is still new to them.

Locking threads now? Gnatster? I'll tell you now you can infraction me for all the good it will do threats won't and will never affect me in the slightest. I'll say what I have to say and if you deem it inappropriate then you apply any actions you need to apply.

I'll also say it again. Your allowing wayne luke to glorify vbulletin to potential unknowingly customers without harassment yet you are on the backs of people who are strongly voicing their concerns which would show an unbiased reference guide. They need to kow if they have concerns that they will be banned from vbulletin.org, vbulletin.com and will have no rights whatsoever.

And nick, and I wasn't going to mention this but I will because I don't beleive in holding back. If anyone says I'm speaking nonense I will reply back despite whatever you may think although my response to that member wasn't crude but the truth. Fine if you want to start to lock threads because I see another locked because people feel it' getting out of control.

Don't read the threads if you don't like hearing stuff. people who generally sit on the fence no nothing on the in and outs of the vbulletin fiasco and will call it bashing.

And for the record dumb idea 24 hour stand off. This will not do anything but aggravate people further.

 

FYI, the 24-hour lock-down was never planned (and never will be) to happen.

 

I agree with some of your points but not all.

Wayne isn't being allowed to "glorify" vBulletin, he puts his point of view and others can and do counter that as they see fit. It's not the job of this site to pass judgement either way.

The only thing that I would like to see stopped - and I believe this is now happening - is posts where the comments get personally abusive, either against other members or third parties (eg vB staff).

Beyond that I have no problem with anything anyone posts. Unlike many, I would rather hear opinions that conflict with my own, it'd be boring if all I ever read was nice fluffy stuff where everyone always agrees with each other, if I wanted that there is a certain other admin site where that sort of behaviour is encouraged.

 

To be bluntly honest, I don't think that vBulletin 4 discussion forum is going anywhere good in the forseeable future. Harsh comment, but to be fair, the anti vBulletin rant sites have pretty much completely died out, much of the ranting has cooled down and people have either stayed or gone to other software. All that's left are roughly three people who seem to have taken into so far as to go into insults and madness, and everyone else here is quite honestly seeming bored of all this vBulletin moaning.

 

I haven't insulted anyone if your referring to me. People sounds so informal and rude if we are being blunt.

People get what they give. Nothing more, nothing less.

 

I see childish behavior on both sides, yet one side is getting the blame for it all.

We get people here who would like nothing more to do, than to just whine and complain about how this vBulletin fiasco is annoying and the users who are upset about it are the "mean ones" and to leave if we want to talk about it. These people are throwing cheapshots, complaining, and acting like children but since they're in the moral majority its okay for them to do that.

No where is perfect, but this is ridiculous. I'm with Shelley on most of the issues so I won't go into a rant or anything, only to have these people come and say how I'm so mean hurting IB's feelings and The Almighty Wayne Luke doesn't approve my message. Wayne is a human just like the rest of us, he bleeds and breathes.

It seems like since some of the "regulars" think that vBulletin is doing a stand up job (or they don't use the software and don't care) that anyone with the opinion that they are not are just trolls and trying to upset people. Not really, but they're talking about what they believe is wrong with a company that is easily on the decline. If you want them to stay on the decline, don't say a word and let it all happen as it is now.

 

I'm not talking about anyone in particular. But insults always cross the line. People, there's a thing called civilised debate rather than ad hominem attacks.

 

And that's exactly what I am trying to put a stop to. But when I mention this, everybody cries censorship and jumps ship. Maybe that's a good thing...
