wow that's just silly, there's better ways to spend one's time and money then issuing DMCA notices for such!

Wiki is TLDR, wtf is a DMCA and what does it have to do with this?

The DMCA is a bill that clinton signed into law to stop pirating of copyrighted material. Bob Brisco is the new owner of Jelsoft (vbulletin software). Brandon Shelley Is a member of the vbulletin community that offers help for people whom want to start a vbulletin forum, skins, aps, etc.......

Don't see this as me defending vBulletin here because I'm not - I don't know enough about what happened. However, the above statement is *completely* wrong in every way.

Yes in the near future at least since for most people who are not tech savvy migrating to an alternative will be a difficult choice to make, but i foresee that the they will start feeling the pinch a year down the line with a IPB on steroids breathing down their neck :owned:bad customer relations usually come back to haunt you over time with uneering regularity....

Technically, copying an entire post word for word is copyright infringement.

Here is what makes me laugh. It seems vbulletin includes Bob's entire post as syndicated for rss feeds. It is then not possible to complain to Brandon that his post is infringing.

This seems to send a message to all vbulletin licensees that they will rule with an iron hammer and that they will monitor sites for content. Neither makes me particularly comfortable.

Has anyone noticed that the vB.com RSS feed is sending out the same content multiple times. We had to shut it off since they went to the vB4 beta as multiple times a day the same 15 or so posts would show up in the area we defined.

And it looks like Wayne was called to do mop up duty on vbulletin.com. The thread discussing the reasons for the DMCA letter has been closed. The proper forum for discussing the issue (fiasco) is in a support ticket.

My guess as to the plan: Keep stuffing these issues under the rug and hopefully vbulletin will be released by the next quarterly call to quiet the complaints.

Is it just their forum that does that (if so all forums, or just the annoucement forum) or is it every thing in vB4 (Blogs, Annoucements, Forums etc etc)

My main concern is that I have a lot of time getting my site/forums to where they are and it will take a lot of work to move to something different (I still may). Flipping to a different system is not an easy or light choice for me.

Agreed. The potential for that is not comforting.

Short version is that this has been a bumpy and stumbling transition with a lot off bad calls - real and imagined - that brings the comfort level somewhere down to near zero.

What really bugs the crap out of me is that we have a community system seemingly saying bleep you to the community. Does not inspire much warm nor fuzzy.

Announcements are the culprit. Sorry for the lack of detail, still on first pot of coffee. All Announcements from 8/31 forward. We just shut off the feed as we got tired of clearing out multiple posts.

Maybe that's why they did it, to stop individuals from using it? I know it seems a bit redundant, but hey who knows.

Yeah, ok, so either your host is incompetent (can't verify this stuff) or the major spin team is on the case again.

I've sent an email to my host to research further, I don't see him making a mistake like this, but who knows. :waiting:

Like I said on Twitter, your host should have verified this, and this is actually his fault for not doing so. You don't get legitimate DMCA complaints through email; I almost asked you that question last night, but assumed they'd check up on that and that maybe it was faxed. Honestly I'd ask for a written copy through snail-mail for any legal notice I get.
