I use it for general and basic photo manipulation. I'm not even sure what can possibly be made with in in regards to graphics though.

Has anybody ever created any quality graphics with Paint.NET alone?

I recall FMB mentioning it in a tutorial or a thread once.

I used Paint.net a while back. You can do some good stuff with it. it's a small package with a punch. I moved off it due to lack of info. If you have graphics experience, then you don't really need the extra info. But if you're like me *and* you, then some how tos, tuts, active ppl etc. takes you further, its just your own patience then.

Therefore, I changed to GIMP. Another free one but it has more extensive online help and is a more comprehensive package. Some ppl have said its the free version of Photoshop. I'm not claiming that or anything. But my lack of graphics skillz does not justify a buy of PS.

Yeah, sorry this didn't answer your question, but maybe gave you another option.

If you have PS you could TRY to go by the tut I made on CS4, I don't know how much it has changed, but I am sure it has some similarities, specially the names of the tools.

I just use it for quick and dirty screenshots and the odd arrow here and there. No one needs to see my dual-screen setup or mess on my desktop when I am working.

It's a really nice comprehensive package, and it should easily be able to make some nice user ranks. To make the background, simply draw a rounded rectangle then drag the gradient tool over it with a gradient of choice.
