I would agree, but some people have 32 bit processors, still.

My fiance is one of them, and I will be trying to get him to upgrade eventually...he refuses to buy a new computer until his dies.

Just bought Windows 7 yesterday, or at least got the free upgrade. It's fairly good, I like the general style and it does seem faster... I just wish they didn't half ruin MS Paint in the process (what? It's fairly good for spriting, or at least used to be).

You could stick a toothpick in the power supply fan. It will eventually overheat and kill the computer.

Never used Paint before Windows 7. The application just seemed worthless. I like it now. However my primary image editor is Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing

it is not so outdated as one may think. for example, most netbooks are equipped with intel atom processors these days and they're 32-bit and will stay so for quite a time, 'cause they're cheap and low on power requirements.
and w7 is real good for netbooks, i couldn't believe my eyes. i got acer aspire one, the cheapest one - got it new for $200, just couldn't pass by - with 8g ssd drive and 512 mb ram. by default they sell it with linux but i don't need linux, i need windows. tried to install xp on it and man, it was a nightmare. that cheap ssd is very slow and it looked like the early days windows 3 on older 8086, like you click an icon and it waits a couple minutes to respond. total fail, you know, unusable. installed w7 and whoaa, it worked like a charm. it was understandably slow on 512 mb ram but it was live slow, not frozen every couple of minutes like xp. added 1 more gb since and now it's absolutely stunning, even aero is working with full effects, amazing. :)

i've been running w7 since august on my main laptop and it's really really good. a huge step forward compared to xp. very stable, very fast - imo even faster than xp - pretty interface and lots of usability enhancements. i mean, real enhancements, not only visual ones. though prettiness doesn't hurt either - i spend more time with this f***ing laptop than with my wife every day so why should i settle for ugliness? :)

all in all, i can recommend upgrading to w7. it's worth it.

Whelp...due my own stupidity I had a root kit issue. After 10 hours of trying clean up the mess and still having issue a new install became the plan.

Now have completed the migration from XP to Win 7 64 bit.

    Next...more RAM

    I'm still behind........

I ordered the Win 7 upgrade kit from HP for both my and my son's computer at the same time. HIS arrived on 11/2. Mine has YET to get here. Soooooooooo I called them yesterday for the 3rd time, and finally they are sending another one.

However, they had to give me a new Order ID and it should arrive in 7-12 days. So I have to wait almost another 2 weeks to get it!

    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......

I'm got the RC on my desktop. It runs well though I'm not sure I like the new taskbar. As buying the upgrade; I think I'll just wait till I get a new computer. :)

There's not really an icon. It's a thin vertical bar that you can click (or hover over for a temporary thing).

If it's not showing, go to Control Panel -> Taskbar and Start Menu. Ensure you've checked "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop." That allows the temporary hover to work, but the bar should be there with you able to click on it regardless.

The bar can sort of blend into the background of the taskbar, so you might have to look harder than usual to see it.
