4 minutes ago upgraded to suite because today, for whatever reason, seeing that copy running somehow made me feel better about upgrading.

Added 1 more notch in Bobs 'lookie what I did' speech at Pub Con.

I'm still pissed that Wayne Luke told me this a few months ago:
That's what I did back then!!!

Renewing a leased license would have been $100.

As suggested I converted my leased licenses to active owned licenses for a $180 each.

Now it turns out leased licenses can be upgraded for a $130 just like owned licenses.

So we are talking about $230 vs. $310 per license here if I should decide to pre-order.

What a great benefit I got there!!!

Especially after looking at that Chinese alpha vB4 site yesterday they are most definitely not seeing more of my money any time soon.

Think of it this way. Your donating to a higher cause. Cause being the 2009 christmas vbulletin solutions bash. This year they drink the finest champagne. :D

Jokery aside, the pricing isn't an issue for me.

When I said that, upgrading to 4.0 for a leased license was full price and wasn't included in the sale. I am sorry that things changed. I can't read the future and don't get told everything months in advance. At the time the advice was given, it would have cost you $350.00 per license including the leased renewal fee.

Yeah, that's the way it feels to a LOT of people.

    I don't know that I'd say that:
Renewal of leased license = $90
    Cost of upgrading = $130

Not making out like a bandit at all, more like getting ripped off by a company who refuses to support them any more.

    How to be more logical?
A> Respect your clients, you know those that paid your bills for years. Give a discount based on how long the license has to go, instead of throwing everyone in one lump group.

B> Respect your clients that paid for the vaporware that you claimed would be one time payments, then abandoned.

The whole idea behind running a company is to actually respect your clients, not treat them like the scum of the earth. Has vb done this? Absolutely not. They've eliminated one group of individuals completely, and told those of us that spent money on their other products that we don't matter as well. As someone who picked up 2 blog licenses well before the debacle came out, all I have to say is WTF. This isn't respect, this is absolutely the opposite. Had I known they were going to pull this crap, I woulda just waited till vB4.

What's better is the claim that "sales are at an all time high". Yeah, that's typical sales speak. Nobody's regulating that at all. Of course, in IB/Jelsoft's imagination they are, but here in the real world, you have to provide work before you get paid!

Myself? I have no intention of upgrading or renewing at all. vBulletin/IB have ripped me off enough over the past 2 years.

I have two licenses. Ihaven't purchased an upgrade yet. I'm still pondering the situation. I have always liked vBulletin. I am comfortable with it. The $130 upgrade fee isn't really bad, it is the presentation. I feel like I'm on a used car lot.

    Jeff

PS. I purchased Invision Board, IP.Content, and Gallery recently. Customer service seems much better there than it does at the vBulletin company.

Thanks for the apology Wayne. I appreciate it. I'm still not happy about all this ... but I'll stop bringing it up now ... just felt a little bit ignored on vb.com about it ...

It's bad. But at least you just got ignored. I actually got the staff mocking me in the forum and closing my thread to stop me refuting what they said.

I'll be able to purchase the upgrade on Thursday for three of my licenses.

I guess if it's warranted I'll purchase the upgrades for the other three at full-price when they're closer to expiring. Maybe there will be a coupon code or something. :|

Worry not. vBulletin said they won't offer anything similar to a discount code but you can be rest assured there will be a ton of people looking to sell extra licenses on the open market after this "alpha presale" concludes. I know that we'll have a bunch as several of licenses that we were administrating are being converted to Invision Power Board sites.

We did plan on upgrading but unfortunately we dont have the money to, meaning if and when we can upgrade it will cost us £152, what a damn rip off. 3.8 is where we will most likely be staying at least until they get their act together and extend either this pre-sale or hold another sale or drop the prices all together. Theyve certainly lost our custom through this shitty short pre-sale.

I take that back, we have enough to upgrade 1 of our forums to the suite which we are going ahead with today, it is really awful being in a situation where youre almost forced to shell out money for the suite like this or lose out later, thanks a lot IB/Jelsoft, a great way to keep the customer happy.

If you've got a forum you really don't need the suite. The marketing guys really pressed buttons saying "watch these little suckers run trying to get a bargain" - you really may not need the suite if you have a forum. Nothing will be released for months. There will be plenty of licenses for resale on the market. Worry not, it's not the end of the world...

One thing im wondering is if you upgrade a leased license to the suite does that make it more or less an owned license?
