    Hi all,

As an enthusiastic iPhone user, I was very pleased to see an application appear in the App Store that acts as a "container" for Online forums such as this one (it can currently work with phpBB or vBulletin based forums. AdminAddict is vBulletin based).

The app is called Tapatalk and can be purchased for $2.99 in the App Store. We have no affiliation with Quoord Systems (the developer), we had to buy the app like anyone else. But we have configured AdminAddict to work with Tapatalk, and I wanted to give you a walk through.

When you launch Tapatalk, you can find AdminAddict quickly either by a search for "admin" in the Search tab, or by selecting the Network tab and choosing the "Computer and Internet" category:

You will only need to navigate to AdminAddict the first time; once you select AdminAddict, it will appear in your Favorites tab (see the five tabs at the bottom of the screenshot). Very nice.

After you select AdminAddict, you will see buttons to login to the site. Click that, and enter your user name and password. Then you'll see the familiar AdminAddict categories:

From there, you can click to drill down to the specific forum in that category:

Then ultimately to specific threads. You will notice that you don't have all the information available from viewing the site in a browser (such as original poster, number of views, number of posts, and so on), but you do have a very clean list of topics, along with a short preview.

When you click into a thread, you'll notice that nearly all UBB formating is not translated into the Tapatalk interface. However, you do still get quoted text, url links, images and avatars. You're welcome to use UBB commands in your posting, however; you just won't be able to see the results in Tapatalk.

Be careful clicking links; they will take you out of Tapatalk and open in Safari. Unfortunately, Tapatalk doesn't remember your last location, so when you re-open Tapatalk, you'll have to start from the beginning.

If you want to add a response to the thread, just click the Reply button in the top right. This gives you a menu where you can choose to reply, to refresh the list of posts, etc. If you want to reply to a specific post, tap on the post; a Quote button will appear over the post that you tapped:

This brings up the standard iPhone text entry screen, either with or without quoting, depending if you clicked reply or quote. As you can see by the four tabs at the bottom of the screenshots, Tapatalk also lets you read and write private messages (from the Inbox tab), view the latest posts, posts you're subscribed to, etc. You also can view a very basic personal page with links to some of your own posts.

All in all I find Tapatalk to be a very nice, clean way to browse AdminAddict, which is why we wanted to offer it to anyone with an iPhone who wants to spend $2.99 on the app (again, we're in no way affiliated with them, we're not trying to sell you their app!) It doesn't have all the features of the web version, but it's also formatted very cleanly without needing to pinch to magnify the page or the like. This may or may not be an option you care for, but it was important to us to offer it to you as an option.

    Enjoy!

I've thought about adding this to vBSetup, but the forum loads fine for me already on my iphone.
I am glad to see it here, that mobile style you had the other day when I was viewing it, is bad.. but I guess that means I'll have to buy an app to use the taptalk..lol

I was actually going to suggest an improvement on the mobile skin, as it's pretty bad currently (I use my iPod Touch). But this is an alternative. Thanks!

I've been using it on my site, our dev site and MINI Club site I run as well. The members enjoy the access.

Tapatalk is really nice for iPhone access, I love it on my iPhone. I have a 3G, and one of the limitations of the phone is the AT&T 3G speed and processor speed of the phone. The 3GS being a bit better.

Using an Android powered Droid on VZW kills the iPhone. The network and processor speed make using the native browser for forums such as this very nice. Plus the browser is better than Safari. I prefer the experience over a special mobile interface such as Tapatalk.

In defense of the iPhone, it is more stable than Android. It just doesn't have the richness and features. Mind you, Android will patch and get better.

As tapatalk is installed on adminaddict for more than three month, do you see more iphone users browsing this forum? Or do you have user statistics from tapatalk?

    How to install:
    1) Go to Tapatalk - Online Community at your fingertips! and register. (note this is different login then their forum)
    2) Download the appropriate files - clearly marked
    3) Copy files to root of forum
    4) Follow any special instruction you may want (editing template to auto-redirect iPhone users with prompt, etc.)
    5) Verify and list in directory

The whole thing takes about 5 minutes...

    Thanks Mordy! :)

Nick (or anyone else using TapaTalk) what sort of feedback are you getting from your users about TapaTalk? What specific positives are you getting and what negatives are you getting as far as comments?

Over all I got a good response: Surf ODJT From your Mobile Device - Our DJ Talk - DJ Help and Resources Chat!

The most negative response was that it wasn't available for more devices.

I haven't received any negative feedback, whatsoever. The only feedback has been positive; many people requested that I use TapaTalk with AA, so I did, and they're happy. :)

I have no reason not to recommend it. ;)
