How to copyright an image

I finally settled on a logo for my site, and I want to copyright protect it. I had my daughter take a picture of me with my back turned and looking a certain direction.

So how and where do I apply for a copyright?

 

According to this site, you don't have to copyright an image.

 

Oops, I think I might have been referring to a trademark.

I want to use this logo on tee shirts, my website, maybe some backpacks, hats, shorts bottles,,,

If you're using the image as a logo, you might look into registering it as a trademark instead of registering a copyright. You would do that here: United States Patent and Trademark Office

My suggestion is to fill the disc full of all the images you can, we do this at work about 3 times a month we send 2-3 disc full of our shoots off to them and pay the $35 (I think its 35) per disc for them.

What about Michael's ratepicsnow site? Hes got them copyrighted or something.

 

Everyone can put a simple © but to actually have papers stating you have copyright, is something else.

 

Legally, when you create works (images, stories, articles, etc), you automatically own the copyright for them and you are free to use the copyright symbol.

However, that automatic copyright holds very little weight in US courts, unfortunately.

Best practice for copyrighting is to get a collection of your works together, and as David said, submit them all at once (on disk or in a bound volume, etc), and pay only the one fee for all of them.

You then have legal documents stating that you own the copyright for these works, and that DOES hold up in court.

you can not get a free or effortless service online, even images of deviantart are not copyright still.

 

The designer sent back the first step of the logo, now the slogan needs to be added. I had one idea for the logo, but the designer has another idea. So we are going to try them both and see how they work out.

This is going to be the logo I have put on business cards, tee shirts,,,, sports bottles, stuff like that.
