Lifetime supply of tea + coffee :D

Erm... a forum software program (e.g. vBulletin or IPB 3) would always be nice(!), or instead perhaps some sort of "community starter" package? Something that would include a good forum skin, essential modifications etc... (not necessarily a forum licence?) Not really sure.

I'm sure whatever the prize is, we'll all want to try and win it!

That's pretty much what our first contest prize was: domain, hosting, vB/IP.Board license, premium modifications, and the whole nine yards.

Many of our members haven't participated in our contests before (although they are still active members), and that's who we'd like to attract and reward in the contests.

Is there a need to have a monetary prize?

    Could the prize be:
    • a special badge that the winner gets to "wear" until the next time we have the contest?
    • Or a free write up about their site?
    • They get to choose the first topic for the upcoming teleconference series (still hoping that pans out)? :)
    Thanks!!

You make videos to promote your site? Do you have a youtube, break, metacafe, dalymotion, yahoo video, vimeo, veoh, myspace video, vidilife,,,, account? If so, post some links I would like to see your work.

Because I am talking about creating content for your site, and using that content to reach a targeted audience. Youtube is my forums #2 source of targeted traffic, and my forums #4 or #5 source of traffic.

On average, my youtube videos are viewed 8,000 - 12,000 times daily.

Now take that video, embed it into your forum, write an article, and post some images. Then you have a well rounded promotion technique.

I deleted them[only had two] when I decided to make a new site forked of the site I was supporting[pisoga.com], but I'll be making some soon since I am still making changes on my site.

The big thing on anime site's are AMV's and that is 'promotion' for us. I have a couple of users on my site who make AMV's, so promoting my anime site is nothing.

These are all viable suggestions, RR! :)

In regards to the "free write-up", where do you propose that this be presented (within our community)? Would this be visible for a set period of time, or would this be a permanent addition? I'm loving the fact that you're thinking "outside of the box" in terms of contest prizes.

I agree. Perhaps a significant label/title/sig would be good. Perhaps 2, one for the latest prize winner and one for the prior winners.

A long time ago, far far away, I went to kindergarten and sometimes if we did good work we would get a gold star on our work that we could take home and show our parents.

    Hi there,

    Thanks Chris.

In terms of the "free write-up" I was thinking of like an article that outlines the highlights of the person's site. So (for example) if Arny won then for the Disney board it would highlight that it is a very active community focusing on key topics related to Disney news, events, etc. Then would go on to say that members can swap WDBling and even have a few quotes from Arny. Overall it would just be highlighting the community.

This would be valuable because I have seen AA rank pretty high in some Google searches and if somebody is looking for a place to learn more about Disney or chat about Disney this article could send them to Arny's site. Maybe this suggestion is better as a prize for CotM than a generic contest.

Ha! That is so true and probably somewhere in the back of my mind when I made the suggestion! I like the idea of a label for current and past winners. Sort of like a "Miss America 1929" sash or something. :D

    HTH,
    RR

That prize is more suited for Community of the Month, as you stated.

You have to keep in mind the other kinds of contest that are ran in AA, at least in my opinion if you make the prizes of the contest too similar it would defeat the purpose of one of them. For example if you do what you said, it would defeat the purpose of CotM which is being recognized, specially by highlighting what is so special about your boards, at least that is what I've read in some of the submissions to CotM.

In terms of the "forum write-up" specifically, my suggestion results in a difference between somebody submitting their community for the contest and an article write up about it. When somebody submits their community and when people vote on that community it is a forum conversation. The article is more of a review of the community, but highlights the positive aspects (that being the "reward").

Just a suggestion but the prize for the next contest could be a vBulletin Publishing Suite license.

A wet topless competition. Heck, I may even participate. woman webmasters who have lost their way that want to bring back something to the community whilst helping another community. Could be held next summer "Miss/Mrs Summertime Boobies 2010".

As crazy as it sounds I assure you it works and I'm sure you'll be respected the morning after.

lmao!!! As a completely gentleman-like gentleman, I agree that such a contest would be mutually beneficial for all parties involved. ;)
