I see a lot of "powered by vbulletin" in searches and links, especially on vbseo powered vb's.

I urge you to remove such a thing to help with SEO!

The quicker you do it, the better.

Plus, why advertise vbulletin anymore than you need to. Unless you've paid for the remove of the copyright line (which is a fix in its own right, surely if vb were concerned about copyright they're leave it there and not allow you to remove it at a cost) then you're heavily advertising VB. In every post, forum, topic and general VB page on your website.

And unless you're silly, you've paid for to do that!

I say again but louder; YOU ARE PAYING FOR VBULLETIN AND ADVERTISING THEM; PAYING TO ADVERTISE THEM!

REMOVE THE LINE AND YOU WILL HELP YOUR TRAFFIC FROM SEARCH ENGINES - OR YOUR MONEY BACK! :D

Note; what made me say this was me seeing this forum pick up an URL in a signature automatically with the line in the anchor text. That's a no-no IMO. A big no-no.

Well, in some ways it looks good as people see the Google Search result and see it's vBulletin if they're already experienced with forums. But yeah, I will probably remove it in a minute.

No. I don't think so mate.

99.9% of your searches may probably be from those who do not know of vb.

And of the 1% that do, your website should be good enough in content for them to NOT care how its made or what firm you're using for your software.

P.S. Remove it in your style's 'phrases'. Do a search for 'powered by vbulletin' and you'll find it. ;)

Haha sometimes in results I click on sites just because they use vBulletin. I have a strange obsession with the software.

Okay, though, I'm gonna remove it.

Not to be tit for tat but, thats 100.9%, I think you mean the .1%

And I agree, thats one of the first things I always do when SEO'ing people's forums. Remove the powered by from the title, and rearrange the headinclude template some.

Haha, well done mate. Just testing you (and had a few jugs). You gonna reply to me via PM or do I have to keep giving you heavy-breathing phone calls? Even worse, attempt to swim to you now!

Well done, more importantly, you've updated your sig link.

No need to advertise VB when you've paid then pennies mate. Always bear that in mind. It's scratchy back for scratchy back or pennies for software, not both!

I also change the VBSEO line from "search engine optimis(z)ation by vbseo" to "seo URLS by vbseo" as it's really cheeky to assume vbseo have done all my seo when I've A) paid them for their software that could be obsolete some day soon and B) they contribute to 1 30th of the actual SEO that goes on with my forums. Shame on them too. Though that's software developers for you!

Editing the "powered by vBulletin" phrases is something I recommend to every forum owner.
This phrase is showing up in the title tag of every page of your forum.
It's essential in SEO'ing your vBulletin forum..

How to Remove the "- Powered by vBulletin" in page title tags

Go to your ADMINCP> Language & Phrases> Search in Phrases

In your Phrases Search for: x_powered_by_vbulletin (be sure to choose to search by Phrase Text and Phrase Variable Name)

Edit the phrase. Simply change it from {1} - Powered by vBulletin

    to {1} - (Your Choice

    SO your just deleting - Powered by vBulletin if you just leave it with {1}

Agreed, that's the first SEO step I take care of within the first day of setting up my forums.

David, what do you do to 'rearrange the headinclude' template?

There are so many "powered by vBulletin" tags in forums, I agree, it's a bit annoying. There's nothing wrong with trying to market your product, but, really, do we need to advertise them everywhere?

Usually, this is one of the first things I take out of the title, because it does annoy me as well.

Thanks for the link guys :)
This is the #1 thing I look for when reviewing a site as well.
Although, I see someone suggesting adding keywords, I wouldn't do that.
    Example.
    before
    {1} - Powered by vBulletin
{1} - blue widgets for sale

I would just keep it as {1} and leave it
I would also remove the forum name from all categories and threads.
This will help increase your longtail, and IMO having [forum name] on all indexed pages looks spammy.
You can focus on your forum categories and thread titles for your keywords and build links to those pages.

    cheers

Did this ages ago. Heck, at the moment I already like cutting down modification version numbers, links to author websites and bad SEO practices, this was first on the list.
