alexa = spyware, and I do not promote spyware. So I will not post my spyware rankings.

Thank you for asking though. But lets not be promoting spyware.

You can get into the ~500k range entirely on your own, with one browser. It's really only a measure of how many people with the Alexa toolbar browse your site - so boards with people interested in their sites (like AA here) will have wildly inflated Alexa values.

Sparky isn't really a "toolbar" any more, at least for the Firefox based things it's not. It basically sits down there @ the bottom right hand of your browser, not doing much of anything. I'm pretty sure they count that as the "toolbar" though.

    As for ratings:
My business domain (which I've had since 2002) is around 800k, mainly because I rarely visit it, I rarely publicize it, others rarely visit it as well I guess. I'm not that worried about that one getting ratings.

My newest project (TVOTB) runs around 300k, and falling like mad, which I like. Getting to 300k took about 4 months (May -> Sept), which is how long the site's been running. Now, getting below that, I have a feeling is going to take a lot longer.

I rely (myself) on Alexa more than google, because google takes forever to update, while Alexa seems to do so every week or so.

vBCodex is 166,741. Had to go look it up though since Alexa isn't a worthwhile stat in my opinion. I guess it could be better if I installed the Alexa toolbar and put a tab on the Who's Online page for a few days.

Guess I'll never really move up in the Alexa rankings as I'm not about to add a tool bar.

That's dumb. I'll stick with my Google Analytics. I don't know how to interpret half the crap anyway.

Analytics doesn't catch even half the activity it should. I have no idea why, but it just doesn't.

    Example:
Forum shows 800+ visitors yesterday. Analytics? Barely half of that at 500. Goingup? Closer, at 691. Which is to be believed, I don't know, but analytics is desperately off!

Well, at this point, I don't have a site that would need exhaustive stats, so I'll stick with the inaccuracy of Google. :D So many different formulas and algorithms for figuring out this stuff, it's hard to figure out who is right or not.

Yeah, I run stats through 3 companies (google, goingup, gocounter), and none of them show the same results. Kinda ironic

A toolbar in the standard definition resides @ the top of the browser, like google/norton/conduit/etc, which cramps space between the address bar and the bottom of the browser.

Sparky is merely a plugin, which adds features and resides @ the bottom of the browser, not cramping any space at all.

Maybe it's personal definition, but I find sparky very non toolbar like. Yeah it adds features, but so does X-marks, DTA, etc, but none of them are 'toolbars'.

Analytics depends on Javascript, so assume its always 10% off no matter what.

Also if you have it in your footer (bad idea) it won't catch everything especially for those who don't wait for the entire page to load.

I moved my analyics from the footer to headinclude where it should be and my stats started to reflect a more accurate picture.

Except when Google goes down (which has happened occasionally), then your site is stuck with slow loading times, or in the case of one Google-crash, inaccessibility.

Although, it's pretty easy to just move the code during such events.

Well my site is down around 298,366 in just a month. If that means anything using Alexa.
