Will you be upgrading to it right away or will you be waiting a while?

I myself will be waiting for a while before upgrading for the needed mods to come out :)

Apologies if this has been asked before here.

I don't plan on making the upgrade immediately, seeing as there are plans that need to be made before such a move is made (i.e. style preparation, etc). :)

Im waiting for all the bug fixes to come out before touching it. I may install it locally to mess on with and have a look at the new conditionals etc. I hope AA is the first to post the new conditionals cheat sheet up :D

Awesome! Make sure to use the title vbulletin template conditionals, that gets a whopping amount of searches each month. I search that almost daily ;)

Nope, I won't be touching it with a 10 ft pole until atleast 4.0.1 or 4.0.2

The way they are beta and alpha testing, doesn't give me much hope its going to launch without a ton of bugs and problems. Just look at all the bug reports the 3.8 line-up gets, and thats been out for a long while now and used on just about every hosting platform under the sun.

As soon as possible, because I refuse to change the board style until it's released, and I need an excuse to change the style quite drastically to keep up with the times.

    I haven't decided yet.

I may try it out on a new forum and wait on my existing forums.

It'll be a good excuse to make some new styles. :)

Actually, it has already been made known what the template conditionals will be.

    They go from:
    Code:
    <if condition="$show['guest']"></if>
    To:
    Code:
    <vb:if condition="$show['guest']"></vb:if>
Template First Look at vBulletin 4 Template Tags - vBCodex

So, it's not much of a difference.

Well there is no harm in updating the current list and getting that posted up with the minor changes :D

My official policy is "never first into the pool." Let other people test the water temp and bugginess. :p

Most of my forum members like it when things stay the same. It's work to get them happy with improvements - cuz it's not the way it always worked before. Myself I like to keep up, perhaps one step behind the leaders breaking trail.

In this case I first need to understand how different 4.0 is from what I have now. It must be pretty well defined what vB 4 will look like and what new or improved features are included ... is there a link? I have not yet located it, probably just missed it. If for whatever reason this info is not available ahead of time of course that slows the upgrade decision.

And from the rumbles, rumors, gossip and scuttlebutt, I might need to assess what is available for what cost, if 4.0 has separate options. I accept that, it might be a good way to offer extras not all forums want (without knowing details that is.) But if that's what's offered I'll need time to assess what the choices and costs are.

Knowing only what I do now, the earliest I would adopt is after a couple of patches come out. The level of change and the purchase options may also affect the timing of upgrade.

But as soon as I feel it is the right time I absolutely intend to upgrade to 4.0.

Hey, at least we know they're going to respect our current license times, now. That's a good thing. It may have taken them months to get that far, but by god we know that much.

    Back OT:
Will I upgrade? Eventually. I think .01 or .02 is too generous for a "stable" version, given the lunacy that is behind IB and testing now. You're looking at .1 or .2 before it's going to be completely stable. You can only test so much in a limited environment.

Add to that, the delay of developers for mods, etc, and you run into issues.

We will not be upgrading on our live board. I will have a test board for 4.0 and duplicate our live board. Might go with 4.0 in a year.

I already have my new style created and will update to Beta 1 when it is released. Of course I cheat. ;)

Hoping to get Alpha 3 with the CMS installed on my test server this week.
