Have you been hacked before? If so did you find it easy to repair and get everything back to normal? Did your members take much notice of it and did it effect your forum activity? We were hacked a few months back, someone got into the server for our shared hosting and we believe they may have targetted us with being the largest on that particular server. It was down to the hosts settings we believe and they used a remote ACPI call I believe it is. We fixed almost everything and they hacked us ten minutes later as they had put files all over the server allowing to chmod, upload and allsorts. We then got rid of all their files and redone everything, turned off all unneeded mods, upgraded to the latest vb, it was like from 3.7.3. to 3.7.4 I think and all was fine after that. Our members asked about it and we explained and activity went as normal.
No, not yet. I say that because I feel it may happen in the near future. Am prepared with backups and extra security in place.
Yes - been hacked twice. Re-did everything from scratch as they corrupted everything then got hit by the gumblar virus. It affected our community as I lost about 200k posts and about 2k members and am still rebuilding it as part of our recovery.
Not on my forums or site but ages ago when i played RuneScape =) someone hacked me and i found them out and knocked them out, since then i quit.. But so far with my website ive yet to get hacked, i have ALOT of contacts on MSN who can hack and who can take down sites etc, so if i ever do get hacked that person will be in trouble.
Never been hacked. I designed my IPTables script myself, after running through the kernel source to pick out what many features of IPTables actually did... I would not claim that hacking Elliquiy is impossible (far from it), but it's no cakewalk.
The server was compromised, and a script kiddie used it to launch a DDOS attack against a US government website. But I have never had one of my sites hacked a defaced. And I'll keep hoping that it never happens.
Yes, a long time ago when using phpbb. My own fault for not keeping it 100 % up to date. A valuable lesson well learned. Never since then but if my server firewall is to be believed people try all the time .
we thought we had but it turned out to be an admin who was trying to ruin everything by deleting everything and banning everyone
yup hacked once similar case as to yours however we managed to track down the hacker and he was kind enough to guide us on the existing loopholes i think someone mentioned backups i think its very essential to do that..in our case we got off lightly but it could easily have gone the other way
I haven't yet...hopefully not until the end of my life....we need to be careful before disclosing any of our personal information.
Not hacked myself but i did lose everything (3 years of posts, members etc) in the vaserv hack in june.
My site was hacked a few years back from a hole that was left in photopost gallery. I have since gotten rid of photopost and moved to photoplog. I had to rebuild my entire site from scratch and it took along time for me to get the site back to being close to how it was. I am still along ways from having it back to how i did in the beginning, but it is better.
