If you suspect a forum is using a illegal copy of IPB/vBulletin etc, Do you report it?

    No I don't.

Never have and never will. Piracy isn't as big as a problem software/movie companies would like you to think. These companies still make millions of profit, and unless they are willing to give rewards for acting as internet police it'll stay that way.

Thing is if people start nulling everything about the software, more and more people will depend on the free solution out there of the software, therefore cutting the software's revenue and such. So yes, it can get out of hands.

Yes, My friend had vbulletin forums and a trick which can work is if you go to their upgrade patch which is usally /install/upgrade.php it asks for a customer number, his didn't..so i got suspicious and reported him..1 month later and he was using Mybb.

Usually, although it sometimes depends on whether they're doing something else illegal or immoral but not quite illegal that they sadly can't be punished for at the same time...

For me it just depence on the scale of piracy and personal reasons.

I won't report for a small private forum however I will for a forum that is used to spread pirated software. Or extremely large forums that are pirated.

I have so my morals between what can in my eyes or what not.

Don't worry though. I run completely legal. I just don't even wish to have the risk ;)

I would if it was a competing site, in a heart beat. Other then that I dont think I would bother.

I wouldn't, and haven't. That's borderline goody-goody two-shoes, being snitch or rat. If they are truly worried about the pirated copies, they would take more measures to combat it. Plus, as stated earlier, I really don't care because I get nothing out of the deal for reporting it. If they gave me even $10, then hells yeah I'd do it.

Otherwise, though, you're like that kid that no one likes in school because he reports every little harmless thing to the teacher or your mother. I can't stand people like that.

Unless the Jelsoft Staff, for example mention "Customer 521155 has made accusations that you are using a pirated version of our software." :p

Any way, no, I have not, nor do I plan to report piracy. However, I have had suspicions about a few forums, and knew a few forums were using a pirated version of vBulletin.

I would if I knew that it was piracy...but I won't if I'm feeling lazy that day and I'll tell myself "I'll report this tomorrow."

I would not for the sheer reason that they are more liable to get hacked because there are 1000's of lines of extra coding that sends all info to a source and then they shut down the forum because they don't know what to do.

This isn't true. 90% of the pirate/warez scene take pride in their releases and only remove code to deactivate any kind of call back to the home server. Not to say that some don't do it, because I'm sure they do (hence the 10%) but the majority of people will call them out on it and it won't make it very far.

I've ran pirated releases into a comparison tool numerous times with fresh downloaded ones from members area and never has their been extra lines added.

I guess the moral is, if you're going to pirate, make sure you pirate from trusted sources.
