I need contest ideas

How about a treasure hunt. Hide a few little images around the forum and ask people to find them.

I have done this with 5 little golden motorcycles hidden in various posts.

 

FREE BEER - but seriously you could make a posting comp like AA did but have prizes basic like some amazon gift cards, maybe even offer up a 1 month adult site password or something,

 

Charge $5 for a raffle ticket, go buy one or two nice prizes and hope you sell enough raffle tickets to cover the cost. Bonus is if you sell more, you've made money.

Maybe do a contest for free VIP status permanently?

 

If you have vb experience you could have a comp like..First person to get X amount of points wins a couple prizes..

How about a rapidshare subscription, that is pretty easy to do as all it is is login information, all depends on your users really but I cant live without rapidshare!

 

I've done various contests in the past. Depending on the prize, it would depend on the contest.

I've done some contests where I will let people post in a thread, state that I will close the thread on a certain date and time. Last one to post in thread wins. Or maybe I choose a random number thread and that poster wins. This is so so.

I've done the whole hide a graphic and search the site to find it. Works better if there is more then just forums on the site, but it works none the less. I like this one during the Christmas season. I find it fun.

I've tried article writing contests. Submit and article for one entry ticket. Most ticket wins, or maybe highest voted article wins, or random article wins. This one usually performs the poorest.

I've used vbexperience recently. It was ok. Did 5 winners. 3 winners were the Activity Award Prize, Posting Award Prize, and Community Award Prize. Also had 2 random winners. Do not think this one worked as well.

I also just like to randomly give things away. Usually for an event. I gave away hats and shirts when I got married. Given away other site stuff for my birthday. Or for things like 4th of july. Usually those are just site promotional stuff.
