    Hello there!

I see a lot of discussions about what is bad or what forum software do you preffer above the others but there should be something you like about other kinds of software. Hence I wish to dedicate this topic to what is good about different kinds forum Systems. Even if you don't like the software overal.

phpbb: Good configureable! I love the way how groups are used there!
SMF: Very easy to use for starting users! Very easy pre-configured permission sets.
Vbulletin: User friendly and easy to use for moderators plus a advanced adminpanel. This is by far the best configureable board.
IPB: Hence the name. The board has some very nice features and is one of the easyest to learn to configure. Such as the permission masks can be easely used for different groups without to much hassle.

my main forum system is vbulletin.

Phpbb: No features I like that stand out.
    SMF: Same as above.
Vbulletin: Simple and Powerful. Easy to set up and manage.
IPB: Loathe it. I do like the intuitive admin control panel and permissions editor but it I have an awful feeling as I use it.

I think its SMF that has a "karma" system - I really wish VBulletin had that.

Vbulletin has a build in reputation system. However you have to eneble it manually. The difference is that you have to give a reason before addin/removing rep.

I like the warning system on IPB, I think much better than infractions on vB.

I like that vB has tagging, even though it was very poorly added (tacked on).

I prefer MyBB's handling of reputation, where a given user can only assign so many points to another user and that's it. Had to murder Karma on Elliquiy due to Drama issues, and it has been a source of drama on many other sites I've been on. MyBB's hooks are also nice, but they are not as ubiquitous or nearly as powerful as Drupal's.

phpBB has bookmarks, post drafts, separated sentbox/outbox and PM conversations as a standard feature. v. Nice.

SMF's permission profiles are awesome, as is the setting search feature. Its theme design is insane, however.

Vanilla is good for simple forums - it would be nice to see other communities have a 'single forum view' option for simpler needs. It's also the fastest of all major forum software.

Word/BBPress has update and install from web, and the synchronization feature - for multiple ways to display data - is also pretty nice. Quick as frozen molasses, though.

Drupal is not typically presented as a forum - Advanced Forum, Forum Access or OGForum need to be used to meet or exceed the capabilities of other forum packages, but unfortunately, they do not talk well with each other. Drupal is shaping up to be the king of forum packages, regardless. Built in blogging support, a theme engine that makes everyone else look like a pathetic joke, and runs circles around everyone short of Vanilla. It's even faster than PunBB, which is why I don't consider PunBB to be worthwhile at all.
