What do feature do you wish MyBB had (that vB/IPB does)?

Theme and mods are the biggest thing I hear people say they wish MyBB had. That and a larger support community.

But as far as out of the box and/or mods that most people use for vB....what is missing for MyBB? Or it is not in it's "box" but it's a popular mod for IPB/vB, but not currently for MyBB?

Automatic embedding of youtube videos - and dozens of other video hosting sites. Where the usre just has to post the URL and the script will embed the video.

VBulletin has a modification that supports something like 200 video sites. The last I heard, mybb had 0.

I don't think IPB or vB does it automatically do they? But as for plugins MyBB has:

There are more I think. But I didn't go through tons. And beyond YouTube and Vimeo the other's see a huge dropoff. But I think most are covered in the 2nd one above.

My first thought is a WYSIWYG editor. There's rumor of one being in MyBB 2.0. But nothing official has even been hinted at about. And seems the general thought on their forums is that adding such an editor would create bloat.

I'd like to see a superior editing interface (post-wise) - not neccesarily WYSIWYG, but something more refined.

I can't speak for IPB, but vB doesn't have automatic embedding by default. But there is a wonderful modification (AME) that allows you to just post the URL and have the video automatically embedded; it supports a couple-of-hundred video sites I believe.

VB has the automatic media embedding (AME) modification. This site (adminaddict) just happens to be running it. Just copy and paste the url to a youtube video and the site will embed the video.

Right. When I said "automatically" I meant out of the box. As in not needing a mod. Therefore there are mods that MyBB has as well to embed video. But you're right in that you have to add a code before/after the link instead of simply the link itself.

Additionally, I'd love to see MyBB utilize a private messaging system similar to the one developed for IP.Board 3.x.x. It's pretty incredible.

I do think that one day down the road, we'll see one of the forum devs (whether paid or free script) implementing that as default. Eventually it will be one of those things that a significant amount of forums will have modded in.

By the way, SMF has a mod (AEVEA or something like that) which can embed over 200 video sites, last time I used it. And that was some months ago. I'd love to see that on MyBB, whether modded or defaulted.

That would actually be a little overkill to have as a build in feature for the developers to maintain.
There's a similar mod for SMF that makes you embed from 200+ sites. The problem is that many sites change their embed code all the time.
So one day one embedding site works, the next day it doesn't.

    I think:

    WYSIWYG editor.
Built in payment subscription editor, exactly like vBulletin.

and I'd be quite happy with that.

The ability to add custom language variables through the ACP.
Not a big thing but it's easier than loading up the FTP and Dreamweaver.

Nothing. MyBB is great as it is, and I don't see why it needs more 'like vB/IPB' features. It actually pisses people off on the community forums when people ask for features just because 'vB has it'.

I vote a definite NO for a WYSIWYG editor. It would double the size of the entire package, and would take a lot of support staff energy to support - when they could be making something a little more useful.

The only thing that I would like to see an improvement in MyBB on is the permissions system. But that is supposed to be fixed in 1.6.

The main thing MyBB is missing is themes and mods. Out of the box, it's great.

I've been using MyBB since the RC4 days so I've seen it grow up over the years. I'd say its grown into a very good forum out of box. Like others have said the only thing it's really missing (for me anyway) is the lack of mods and themes.

It is pretty impressive out of the box. I would love to see more enhancement on the variables and bbcode.

What do you mean by this - what variables are you referring to?

I would love to see some maintenance ones. I know you can set times and do it manually. It would be great to have it only go through it when it needs it. Like after every 500 post it goes through and prunes post. Since the tools are there under task it would be great to utilize them more efficiently. It's nice to set certain times. Though some forums need it more frequently and only at certain times.

A function to be able to see new post by new users. In one forum I have the ability to see new post in the last x days made by user's who have registered within the last week. With a few variables it would be great to generate a log of those.

I see I can add custom profile fields. To be able to use them in templates as conditionals and variables. Along with the thread prefixes. I do like that about vb. If I have members that want to disable something all I need to do is create a custom field and then surround the mod with a conditional or variable to disable it for them.

Actually, I do have a request now that I think about it :)

Conditionals in the templates, such as <if x = ""></if> so that you can use some PHP without having to enable all of it.
