Installatron or Fantastico

So LogicDepths is looking into Installatron, We think we want to use installatron because it allows custom script installs and this will allow us to add scripts that our clients create and wish to be placed to give more exposure. We are curious what you think about this idea and is worth it or if we should simply stick with Fantastico.

I personally prefer using Fantastico De Luxe, and it also tends to be the more popularly liked choice by clients.

 

Yes it is more popular as it is more well known as installatron is newer.

 

Honestly, I've never used Installatron; at this point Fantastico probably has better brand recognition. But if it's more powerful than Fantastico, that would be a selling point.

 

I'd see who gets the new version releases out quicker -- looks like each one splits it though. Figure out what your most popular installs will be.

 

Installatron tends to be quicker however looking at current installs none of our clients have used it which I like to see as fantastico is slow at updating and you are not able to update yourself if you use it.

I like Fantastico better, I never had any problems with it.

 

I tend to prefer Fantastico's interface, as well - it's a bit more appealing visually.

 

Have never used either myself. Have had hosting accounts with Fantastico but have never used it. Don't trust it. Have never heard of Installatron before.

 

I only used it once...when my site first started I was on XMB (it was good back then!) and at the time CPanel came with a version of Fantastico that installed XMB. Later that changed to phpBB which I have never used.

My site wouldn't be where it is today without XMB, even though XMB is now rubbish. I migrated to vB after two years but never had any problems with the Fantastico installation of XMB.

 

Thanks for your help you guys helped in my decision and we are going to stick with Fantastico as it seems to be what people prefer.
