So...my board is kinda new still..its only 7-8 months old..so one of the rules for being a mod that I enforce BIGtime..is that you must be active daily...meaning an active part of the community for which you represent...and my 2 newest section mods are not doing this...like...at all...

When they were just members they were active....and like the day they became mods they stopped...

Now I have posted a "warning" type message...just to kinda re-inforce this rule...but if they don't fulfill their dutys...im gonna be forced to replace them..

Am I going about this the right way?

That's right. You made a rule before hand that you must be active and if they aren't then they are breaking the rule.

I think your asking too much of them. Lets get real for just a minute - people unplug, go to parties, go to weddings, go on vacations, go to the deer camp, go camping - but somehow they are supposed to be "required" to log onto the site daily?

I think that rule is a "little" extreme.

It's crucial to be active on a near daily basis, in my opinion. As Kevin said, these are real people and, because of this, real-life events come before anything forum-related. Give them some time - they'll be back. :)

It's been said, the rule indeed is ridiculous to some extent for the reason that people have other things in life, they can't be online every day and as a person you should understand that till certain point. Now when they have been completely inactive and you have been trying to contact them, not that is when the problem begins.

My mods are teenagers, most of them, they have school and friends to hang out with, I have college and I also have my nightlife, I can't be on everyday at every hour so I wouldn't expect the same from my mods.

How much time has passed in between posting or logging in? I mean are we talking hours or days? And did they mention if they had plans etc?

It's like kevin stated more or less, people have lives out side of cyber land. My mod is married and has kids. So i realize he can't stay logged on all the time and it's not required even though my board is small and is slow moving.

I would ask them to let me know if they're going to be absent, but as long as they're active on a semi-regular basis I wouldn't sweat it. How long has this been going on? Maybe you just need to give them a little more time.

Also, keep in mind that positions of power and/or management can sometimes affect the way these individuals think (and behave) - make sure that they are aware of the fact that in order to maintain such a position, they'll need to work.

yea i need to re-word that...i dont mean every day...litterly...lol..but the one..who JUST got promoted...went from being on everyday...to not being on in 7 days...now...is 7 days a little stupid for a site that is still pretty fresh and trying to get jump started?
And lemme edit...I know hes not on vacation on sum excuse cuz i've seen him posting on other sites in the past 7 days.

If you're absolutely sure that's him, I'd make an attempt to contact him regarding the matter - it sounds as if he's avoiding the forum.

Seeing them active on other forums changes things; you know he's slacking off, not just busy with real life. I think you should email him now and ask if he's really serious about the moderator position, because it doesn't look like his actions match his promises.

Well yes, saying that he was active on other forums to begin with could have helped a bit more. xD

It's already been said, try to contact him.

If he ignores your attempts to contact him, that's another [possible] warning sign - or red flag.

I would just drop them a PM asking what's up and if there's anything you can do to help them be more active. Maybe there's something about the forum he/she doesn't like now that behind the scenes stuff's been exposed. Perhaps they're having drama or are piled with work, but would love to be active again when it passes. I can understand wanting active loyal and determined staff, but that's not something common.
