Occasionally I find myself making small talk with strangers, and sometimes the conversation rolls around to one of my sites. Do you carry business cards with your URL to hand out on such occasions?

I do. I actually have different ones for consumers and pros. I also have used fliers and real bookmarks - the kind you hold your place in a book or magazine. And hats and other clothing items. Of course, I don't just give those away willy-nilly. I do give them away at industry events though.

While I don't have business cards specifically printed up for my discussion communities, I do indeed have a personal card that includes the address to one of my personal blogs (that is no longer in existence - I should really change that).

    Just maybe XDDD

x.x I don't think the anime industry needs business cards, we have them Pokemanz trading cards to talk for us.

On a serious note, no, I don't think it's needed

I do have cards. very nice one, full color on both sides, rounded corners and coated. I hand them out at all the events I go to. I send stacks of them to all the people I know will be attending an event to hand out and I send them to event organizers to be tossed into the goodie bags. Also send them to the advertisers on the site to slip into boxes as they pack stuff up to ship. The results have been very positive.

I'm sure a lot depends on the type of forum; handing out cards on the street won't work for a really niche site where the members are few and far between. I'm definitely getting something made up for my future local forum, though.

Now that you say it like that, we have "cosplay" events and anime events, personally, I've never been to those, maybe I can target local anime freaks! <3

Handing out business cards and other promotional items at conventions could work quite well; you might want to figure out something unique to give out though.

I use business cards. I also designed, printed 10s of thousands of buisness cards for my clients. It's one of the most profitable areas of my services I offer in my offline job.

Wedding Invitations are extremely profitable. You can gain a substantial turning over designing/printing your own cards whether it's business cards for your self or your clients or wedding invitations or invitations of any kind.

I have never made cards but I do post some fliers around occasionally and especially in spots that are heavily influenced with my forums topic.

Business cards work very well. I am a member on a forum where the owner will send you a huge stack of business cards (for free) to hand out. I'm a loyal member, so I asked for some and I handed them out, placed them on tables, and gave them to friends at conventions, expos, and meet-ups.
It was very effective, and many of that site's members do this. So I know that if I were to ever do it for my forum (and I really think I should), I am confident that it would be effective. My members would love to help promote the site if they could.
