Back before the Internet became available to the general public, I was active on Prodigy message boards, and also dialled in to a couple of BBSs. Once I had access to the Internet at my university I tried out Usenet, but I can't really remember which was the first website based forum I ever joined. It was probably c|net. What was the first forum (as we know them today) that you ever joined?

First web based forum that I joined was WebmasterResources.com, now known as SitePoint.com.

Was on Quantum Link back in the late 80s with my Macintosh. After Quantum Link severed its relationship with Apple, it renamed itself America Online and started offering service for PCs. Tried Prodigy and Compuserve but they were very boring. Was on personal BBSes and Usenet before Quantum Link. Phone bills were killer but could be worked around. Started on BBSes in 1983 with a 300 baud Smartmodem by Hayes.

Started out in 1999 on what is now Tiscali Forums - Powered by vBulletin. Tiscali (then called LineOne) was a UK ISP. Became a paid moderator (only £50 per month). Started my own site for a larf, then they fired me for that, which, amongst other things, started a bit of an exodus from which their once-vibrant community never recovered.

To this date, I'm banned from there and my surname is their word censor, something I'm particularly proud of.

Edit...I really, really hate that thing that changes URLs into the title of the site!

I really do not remember what forum is was. I remember signing up on a gaming forum back in 1999 or 1998, but can not remember the name of it.

I posted some images, and the moderator removed them because they were too big for dial up.

One of the very first message boards I signed up on was for a quakeworld clan, in either 1997 or 1998. Back then you had to pay a yearly fee, and then embed the forum into your site, or something like that. The forum was actually hosted on another server. It was a lot different then it is today.

The old and long gone Gamers.com (was the site for EGM and other gaming mags) that was custom made by Lithium Technologies. Each member could admin their own board which was all apart of one large gaming community. They also allowed HTML in posts.

my first was in february 2007. it was a vbulletin forum about ghosts...the original no longer exists cause they changed admins and the new admin changed everything, moved it somewhere else.....then left it to turn into spam heaven, full of trolls, and the regularly posting members hate eachother, mainly cause of the rivalry of having members from my forum and our rivals, and a few trolls who wont go away

The first forum I joined, I later ended up buying. It was a yahoo cracking site in the early 2000's
It started off being ran on phpnuke, I went in partners on it to help run it, we switched it to phpbb. It was later sold to one of the members and they went with IPB, I went with vBulletin and we never talked again..lol

A guild forum for WoW. I can't remember the type of forum it was... but it wasn't too popular. From then on I was so fascinated with forums and their possibilities. That guild was the best group of people I have ever been around online, and thus, the start of my new love: forums.

My first was a phpBB forum for 3d modelers. Mostly sci-fi models.

After that it was the forum for the software I was using. :)
