What is your default posts-per-page setting? If you have changed it from the default, why?

I think ten is a good amount; to me anything more seems like too much scrolling.

We use 15, which I think is the default.

I stick with 10. I always let users have large signatures. Ten posts helps keep scrolling to a minimum but still communicates enough content per page.

Changing from fifteen to ten on Elliquiy dropped posting rates by about 5%. Changing from ten to 25 increased posting rates by about 15%. Odd, maybe, but I'm not reducing it again >_>

The reason I ask is because somebody mentioned before that having more posts per page would result in higher keyword density and more content for the spiders to crawl, because sometimes they might not advance to the deeper pages of the thread.

I tend to stick with the default, but it really does depend on a) the style being used and b) the amount of space an individual post consumes (i.e. due to a customized postbit, etc).

I don't think I could handle any more than ten posts per page here, as the post bits are so massive. 50 posts per page works so well for me at the MyBB forums because there's no excessive empty space.

I think 15 is good. 10 posts per page is kind of annoying when the thread is like 12 pages long. For Forums that have massive membership and posts, I really like 50 per page.

It all comes down to personal preference.

Nick, in terms of higher key word density--do you happen to know what the consensus is for the number of posts per page that is "best" for spiders?

    Thanks!

No, I don't know of a specific number... but I would say, the more, the better. I think 20 or 25 would be a good amount. That's what I have it set to here, I think.

I like 10 or 15. The user can always change it in their UserCP.

This is less of an issue if you use or make a sitemap generator.

That would only affect whether or not search engines know that the posts exist, but it doesn't affect keyword density like changing the number of posts per page does.

Honestly I had to go look. 20/page default, my options are set to 40/page.

We get people putting up a *huge* number of pictures served from photobucket type sites, which take time to load. Click on thread, go to another screen and read a different thread while the one with pictures loads.
