Do you prefer to maintain a family-friendly forum, or is it not a big deal? Let's say you run a website that doesn't target kids, but isn't meant specifically for adults (18+) or anything. Say, a car forum for example. Do you allow cursing on your forum (the "f bomb" or any other foul language) if it isn't directed at another person (like, "I just got in a f****** car wreck!"), or is it prohibited?

    What's your take on this?

I don't specifically target kids, but since a lot show up anyway I do try to keep things reasonably clean. I'll usually let it slide if it's something that will fly right over a kid's head though.

I have coppa shut off and birthdays turned on and locked once set. Never had anyone young try and sign up.

I pretty much allow any words to be written. People talk that way :|

Umpires are known for their use of colorful use of language. That being said I don't have a problem with language; guys generally edit themselves.

While my sites don't target kids, I abhor any language containing the F word, and God**** - stuff like that. But rather than ask people not to use them, I have them on the censored word list.

All the forums I help out on prohibit the use of foul language in posts.

IMO, its completely unnecessary to use such language on forums.

Very family friendly. My forum attracts all sorts of younger members, so I think it's important to keep it clean. I know for a fact that I have younger members who visit with assistance from their parents, reinforcing my decision.

Yep, that is what the delete key is for! I've found it's better to use them very sparingly in real life... that way when you're hopping mad and actually use a bad word, it has the intended effect.

Well the main site I help run is a general discussion/off topic forum, so language can fly however it's chosen. The one exception is no racial slurs in thread titles.

We allow them to swear as long as theyre not swearing directly at others or trying to insult someone, teenagers and adults swear and as long as it isnt at someone or insulting then we dont mind.

If of course someone was swearing constantly then yes we would ask them to stop.

My main forum is semi-family friendly forum because my 13 year old daughter and my 15 year old son visit it.

The other 2 forums are totally family friendly.
