Website or just forum?

Do you have a regular website that goes with your forum, or do you have just a standalone forum? If the latter, do you intend to ever expand and have a website as well?

Currently I have just a forum on RHM. Never can tell what will happen in the future tho.

On TbD, I guess you can call it a website, as I have many pages.

I often have other sections to the site, such as a directory or zip code search. Usually the forum is the main aspect though.

For my website, I use a CMS - Mkportal. A forum, which I also have, adds so much more to a website.

So, I would suggest having a forum in conjunction with a website...

I tend to think that a website will be more sought-after and be considered a greater resource if it has more than a forum. I see a lot of sites that are only forums - but they have so much potential in terms of expansion. I just wonder why they don't expand.

One community that I'm feverishly working on will include a main site (Joomla!) just to hold things together, forums (SMF 2.0), a wiki (just for fun), a blog section (Wordpress MU, complete with BuddyPress), and a photo gallery (Gallery2).

Granted, this isn't a real project (as in a paying client), more-or-less a friend of mine starting up his own gaming community. I told him I could use experience, he agreed, then I just went rampant, lol.

Generally on all the other forums I build up, I accompany Joomla! with it, even if it's only a few pages.

I would never make a website if it didn't have a forum (except for a personal website/portfolio). But I'd definitely make a forum without first having a website. I always want more than just a forum, but because I lack in the skinning/coding department, it can be hard.

Only forum on the one site, working on a portal for it.

I'm moving one of mine to center around SMF, with a portal system for pages and whatnot. TBH, the community didn't really need a website, because SMF can do just about everything I need, plus more.
