What is your set at? I've read that some people extend the time to make the site appear more active (not to anything extreme though) and therefore entice guests to register.

Mine are all set at 15 minutes. What about you?

Mine are (and always have been) set at 15 minutes, as well. I've never felt the need to change this. ;)

    default of 15 minutes.

I've seen some sites set at 3hours to make themselves look busier than they really were.

I am using default since I do not see any reason for changing it.

I've used an hour for some time now. I feel more is cheating.

I have seen one forum that set it to several months. Then saw people asking how their forum was so active >_>

I use 15 minutes. Making it longer to appear more active is interesting.

What?!? I'm sure their database probably cries with every index page view.

Anyway, most of mine are anywhere from 10-15 minutes.

I set it at one hour. mostly to appease the person that handles the sites library. He kept getting timed out when editing long articles when it was 15 min.

15 minutes, although I've had members who wanted to deliberately extend the timer to 20 to 30 minutes to make it appear more active. I don't see any reason to make the timer longer. Its deceptive for starters... but more importantly you may continue to see users who have been offline for 20 minutes and that isn't terribly useful for anyone.

30 minutes, it just works well that way for us. Our main competition was doing it and it was brought up as a comparison between the two sites as far as activity. Set it to 30 minutes and never looked back. 30 minutes is hardly deceptive if 15 is not.

Not really, it's an insanely tiny forum. It doesn't really fool too many, I think.

I use 15 minutes. Beyond 15 minutes limit, everything is scam
