We've touched a bit upon editing a member's post(s), but what are your thoughts on editing and/or completely changing thread titles? Do you think that this is viable, or do you leave thread titles "as-is"?
Yes, we edit titles for many reasons - If the title breaks any rules, if they have an obvous typo () and sometimes if they are just so obscure its impossible to tell what the thread subject is.
If that ( ) is in reference to the "Yea" aspect of this thread's title, that is indeed correct - "Yay" is a common mis-spelling when used in such a phrase. Or... it's directed at your "obvous".
Yes, I have done this when the title was unintelligible and people started making fun of it in the thread... (see Mentally Deficient users, care and feeding of)
I've done it, especially when I use the thread as a sticky. The AJAX editor on the forum display page makes it very easy and quick to do with vBulletin.
well fmb what if the title is full of obscenities and foul language you cant have that stinkin up your board lol
Rarely will my mods or I edit a title. On the topic of misspelling - sometimes misspelled words can rank well in google search results. If one person misspelled the word, there is a good chance that someone else will. On one of my blogs, an article that I misspelled the title of started sending my site some traffic. It ranked in the 10 ten search terms in my google webmaster tools. But I finally fixed it, more out of embarrassment then anything else.
I only edit titles if there is a misspelling or if it's very plain and non-descriptive, like "Help". Other than that, no I don't change them except for at the request of the thread starter.
