Other than standard infractions and perhaps bans, what are some punitive restrictions you can impose on members?

All I can really think of is:

    • Warnings
    • Infractions
    • Bans
    • Require user's posts to be moderated (moderation queue)
    • Revoke signature, avatar and profile picture
I'm sure there are a ton of other restrictions. What are some you can think of?

    Tachy goes coventry
urge people to use the ignore

Moderation queue is really painful for them.

    "Custom/special" title or avatar
Once I saw a users title that was in html that had a really embarrassing picture for a week that the user could not edit/delete.

A withering lecture might be the worst punishment, for some people.

Suspensions - That's all I do really as far as punishments go. It's pretty embarrassing once word spreads someone got suspended, lol.

It really is - after serving a suspension (regardless of the length), members tend to feel hesitant when it comes to returning back to the community.

True. If it's just your whatever member, no. The rumor spreading happens with people under 20, mostly. At least from what I've learned growing up and well into my adulthood. :P

Though, it is interesting to hear gossip on people I knew in high school now, lol.

That is one of the modifications I have installed on my site - its very nice, thank you.

The next thing thta happens - after 3 infraction points, the member is put into a "limited access" group. This is automatic and is part of the automatic ban system. I think the member spends 7 days in the group for a 3 point infraction.

During the time in the limited access group, members can not download files, can not view attachments, can not start threads, can not join the chat room, can not post items in the classifieds, can not send private messages,,,,. All they can really do is reply to threads.

That will kick em' where it hurts.

It's funny that you should mention that, seeing as this would (more than likely) cause them to become aggravated (i.e. throw a tantrum, act out, etc).

Miserable users seems to work really well.

This may sound like a stupid question but what's tachy goes coventry? I keep hearing you guys talking about it but I have no idea what it is. Is it like miserable users?

You know how the ignore works? You put someone on your ignore list and you will never see anything that person posts.

Tachy = everyone on the forum putting a person on their ignore list.

The persons posts never show up for other people, but the person that is making the posts can see their own posts.

Hmm that's pretty interesting. I should look into that. We have one or 2 people that would deserve to go into that category.

    The problems with Tachy include:
    • how to deal with the situation when they come out of that status and everyone sees a bunch of posts show up
    • eventually they find out no one is seeing their posts either by contacting friends or not being logged in and viewing the forum

Yeah that could potentially be a problem once they found out.

I think the miserable user is a better option since there's really no way for them to find out about it.

In a sense I think MU is the best. When you ban someone, to most it's almost an invitation to revolt, and they will more than likely create an alternate account, spam, or harrass mods and members.

But once you put them on MU, they just get frustrated by the lagging and downtime, and just ignore the forum all together.
