For those of you who manage/have managed large busy forums, do you look back with nostalgia on the days when your forum was small and manageable? Or are you glad your forum has taken off?

None of my forums have ever really taken off, and although I aspire for them to, I like having the closeness that I currently do. It's nice to know all of the "regulars" in the community, and have time to read every single post that is made.

We will see how it goes, because AA is taking off quite well. :)

I don't mine either. ^-^ We create a family if it's a small one, like we have on Pisoga, or the family can constantly expand. It would be cool to have a large forum and I think I can achieve such goal.

I would prefer my forums to continue growing to know end. I'm hoping that's what we see on AA.

Right now, I prefer a small, manageable community, since I'm still a bit inexperienced. But I really hope to have a larger one in the future.

Small is saddening to me. Never look back.

i would love to be admin on a really large forum, cause i guess it would be exciting, but i also love being admin of my smaller forums cause you get to know the memberrs better, even though there is very little moderation needed-most of the time i am just like a normal member but with a different coloured name and the ability to fix the forum if it breaks. i would like to see what its like to have a busier forum where there is plenty of admin stuff to do.

I'd love to become very large but given my very tight niche, I think double my current size and active members is about all I can do. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I think its a mixed bag - if your forum does not take off, then a lot of people close the site.

If the forum does take off, then you have to manage the place.

I dont think you can have one without the other.

Small or big won't matter. Forums are with the bondage between members :)

Very much my thoughts on the matter.

Although I would like to think I could foster an encourage a well bonded forum with a sizeable membership. :)

Preferably, I love the big forums :D

The most enjoyable aspect of running a large forum for me is managing my team of moderators and watching the amount of posts that are created a day. It is truly amazing when forum really kicks off.

Something about the question strikes me as odd - are Elliquiy and Blue Moon small because they are in fact quite manageable? Or what level of management is 'unmanageable'? O_o

I'd love to see both of them grow a lot further, of course.

With the right staff team - all communities are manageable - whether its large or a small one. I think if you let your members run through you, then of course, the community will be very hard to manage. Set the ground rules, and everything will be fine.

I owned a few big boards in my time. It was a full time job just to keep the servers running and software tweaked. As far as the communities I had a dedicated team of staff that made the community run smoothly.

As long as you have dedicated staff the size of the forum means little. Staff will take care of that for you. The larger a community gets the more an admin has to do to keep things humming along. Not to mention the bigger a communality gets the more servers you'll need to keep them running smoothly.

If you get overwhelmed you can always sell the community if it gets too large to handle.

It depends on the support team.

Strong support make it easier to run a large forum.
