I am not sure when they will release vB4, but will AA be ready for the transition or will the site go down?

What do you mean will the site go down? Like permanently? :shifty:

Personally, I haven't decided what we will be doing when vB 4 comes out. I haven't even discussed it with the other administrators. But you can read my thoughts on vB 4, here.

In my opinion, it's going to be a while before it's ready for use, and we have a lot planned for AA that cannot be stalled because of the vB 4 delay, so we are moving right along. What ever happens, happens. We will adjust accordingly.

We will more than likely not be ready for it right away. I'd like to have a new design made for AA after vB 4 is all good to go and bring in vB 4 with AdminAddict 2.0.

No, no, not permanently, just temporarily.

    And, thanks for your explanation.

    Ah okay.

    Thanks again, guys!

Maybe one day I'll teach you a thing or two about my fierce quickness. Maybe not though.

Oh Nick, I'm quicker than you could ever dream of being... I just so happened to be eating at the time of this conversation.

There you go, Chris (and Nick; how surprising!) hi-jacking my thread.

    Tsk, tsk.

I don't think so, buddy. Do I need to go back and bring up all of the countless evidential threads? :nono:

Don't make me take out the... evil force. I also find it quite hilarious that we've taken this thread almost entirely off-topic.

    Off-topic on!

I think all suggestions that have come to a conclusion should then be moved to Misc. Discussion.

I like the idea of holding off on vb4 for the launch of Admin Addict 2.0 would be awesome!

I think many admins are going to do this, I am. 4.0 will require many changes and doing those style & plugins changes will take some time to work out. So even if 4.0 is absolutely perfect with no flaws it will be 4.1 or 4.2 until I go to the 4 series.

As I mentioned in another thread, we would be waiting a long time - several months at a minimum.

We really don't have that time to wait for our revolution. We are at our climax now (in terms of activity) and it can only be sustained for so long. If we don't do anything new (in addition to contests), we'll be going down just like every other "forum admin" start-up. We don't want to join them in their graves.

AdminAddict 2.0 is on its way and we're starting with a new style, which is currently in the works.

Ultimately, we will be sticking with vB 3.8 for as long as possible. ;)

    Lol I do understand Nick,
After my site was hacked and then hit by the gumblar.cn virus I have spent two months rebuilding, changing, editing, adding mods etc if vb4.0 was released tomorrow let me just say I would not be the first in line for it after all the time I have spent.

I am hopeful that the vb4.x system will be released shortly so all the great mod creators out there can start work on their mods for the new system - my website is only 7 months old (2 months we were offline due to the issues listed above) but am hopeful to have enough mods and a style designed for a 2.0 version of my site to be released at the beginning of the year which would mark our 1 yr anniversary, or shortly after.

So I do understand where your coming from.

Nick, do you think you will be spending time with 4.0 in the background when it is released? Or focus solely on the 3.8 / AA participation activities?

I'm quite curious to look at 4.0 when it comes out.

Heck yes I'll be playing with it! I love playing with software like you wouldn't believe!

My other forum is the one I usually upgrade immediately. In fact I'm taking the opposite approach with it than I am AA. I will be upgrading it to 4.0 as soon as it is stable and most of my modifications are ported. With the upgrade, I'm going to be having a custom skin made for it as well. So both of my sites are going to be revolutionizing; one with 3.8 (AA) and the other with 4.0.
Being able to upgrade my other forum will give me an idea of what the process entails, and will enable me to better gauge the situation AA is in.

I think it would be pretty pointless to actually upgrade, the forum is good as it is.

Well if you have both sites admins CP open don't click on the wrong one!

I've made that mistake many times when copying bits of a template on one forum to the same template on another, so I always ensure to have a different AdminCP skin being used for each site.
If only I could do that with phpMyAdmin or something. :P
