    I still feel like I'm at that stage where I have to personally welcome each new member, but as the number of new sign-ups increases I know I won't be able to keep it up forever. Do you still personally welcome (that is, NOT by automated email or PM) each new member who posts an introduction, or do you leave that to the mods and other members?

    I have always done this - by way of both the introductions forum and a personalized private message. Taking that extra "step" makes a world of a difference (in my opinion). :)

    I used to. After a year+ of doing this, I just stopped a little while ago - but I'm starting to do it again.

    Even when you stop welcoming *every* member though, you should pop in the intro forum from time-to-time and welcome a few new members. Especially the ones that have zero welcomes at the time you see their thread.

    I welcome every new member through their introductory post and occasionally, I will send a PM.

    However, we have an automated private message. So if I never get to personally PMing the member, they get the auto-message.

    The site sends them a welcome email and a welcome private message on my behalf. Sometimes I will get into the new member introduction and post some stuff, but have not done so in awhile

    I have a welcome PM that's not too long and generally people PM me back with a thanks. Also I have an intro area which is heavily used and members get welcomed constantly. I am quick to warn members about being rude.

    i created a welcome thread for the first 10 members, and i have a mod installed that sends a welcome pm to all new members, which they seem to think is personal, as loads of them reply to it to say thank you.

    now i just reply to threads that new members have made in the welcome section, or when replying to the first thread by a new member, will put "welcome to the forum" and then reply with something on topic with the thread.

    I did for a while but got pretty far behind. I'm going to have to get back up on the horse with this.

    It is quite difficult to welcome every new member who joins, due to increase in a number of signups now a days.

    But I do welcome as many as new members signups.

    Automated PM welcomes plus introduction forum. Warm welcomes all around. Sort of.

    Yes It is hard to welcome every new member personally, but I do welcome the number of new joiners as much as I can...

    I also try to welcome all new members - I also ask them how they're doing today. :)

    As most of my communities are still small at the time being, I go a few steps above and beyond by making the attempt to not only respond to any introduction threads, but try to respond to their posts throughout the forum as well, if not only to increase their activity, but to increase the welcoming environment my forums have to offer.

    I've administrated on small and large forums alike, and even the large and insanely active forums I've administrated (up to 1k registrations - 2-5k posts daily), I still tend to say SOMETHING within any introductory posts they make. I'm a HUGE fan of the 'New Posts' feature most modern forum software platforms have to offer.

    i welcome every new member ... i think it sets the tone for your board ... lets people know you want them there and to interact.

    A welcome post from me would look like this :

    awww.adminaddict.net_data_MetaMirrorCache_ea8656e3ecffa3d6b834bffc64807d5e.jpg

    to insert forum name @insert user name ...

    enjoy the forums ...

    @manx

    little tip ... i have a text document with the code already in ... copy and paste then just add the users name ... easy

    @manx

    I have not launched my forum yet (end of this month, or sooner if I can get everything setup).:spin: But I will be greeting every new member as I think it is important, especially in the beginning.

    I'm using Vbulletin V4 Publishing Suite, and I am looking for a way to send a automated PM to new members. Any ideas?:shrug:
