It hasn't quite gotten to the point where anyone has said, "Either he goes or I go!", but I have two members that just rub each other the wrong way. Neither is particularly blameworthy and neither have broken any rules yet, but one is a respected (yet known for his temper) mod and the other is knowledgeable (yet known for his ability to be aggravating) regular member. I fear the situation is about to boil over and the mod will try to ban him over a minor offense. What would you do in this situation?

    On my forum.

I would immediately remove the moderator status because there is no room for those types of issues from a mod on my forum. From a practical stand point, as long as one of them has mod status the situation would never be resolved.

Then I'd tell them to work it out for themselves. Next time something came up I'd give both equal amounts of vacation regardless of who started it.

Sorry, a mod is is no place to argue with a member, even if it has a known temper. On Pisoga, the last mod who did that was demoded 3 seconds after the incident. A mod should know better and stop the fight, regardless of their temper.

I agree with the two above posts.

Remove the moderator. It really shaves off your credibility because your moderators are arguing with members rather than working a situation out. Plus, it shows no professionalism.

I, like others, say remove him/her.

I wouldn't remove the moderator... yet. Have you tried contacting them to work this out privately?

That may also work, and, I like that idea better.

But if the moderator already has a poor reputation, why not remove him/her?

He doesn't have a poor reputation, he just has issues with some things.

    Key sentence.

    Not moderator material IMHO.

I've talked to him about it in a non-confrontational way. Basically I told him to let me be the bad guy and handle the other member.

    Makes sense.

I do suppose it would be best for you to handle him, though, I thought moderators are there to help with problematic users.

However, in this case, seems as if it has come to personal differences.

Tell the Mod to be more professional or you will demote him/her and turn the other guy into a mod :p

Moderators should keep their personal differences to themselves and remain neutral shouldn't they

I've had this problem countless times with a member who enjoys pushing people's buttons and one of my mods took the bait. A minor verbal fight would have ensued if I hadn't stepped in and demoted the staff member and warned the member.
