If you had the chance to start one of (or all of) your forums over again, what would you do differently in the planning and beginning stages?

Use the knowledge that I now have to improve upon the communities that I've built in the past.

Ugh, this is something I always regret having not done:

Not creating a forum back in April 2005 when I joined my first forum. I find that the older the forum is, the larger it can become (a forum made in 2005 that is still actively around will most likely have an advantage over the same forum made in 2008). In addition to the overall activity it would have, it would be a lot more personalized and I would have made a real connection with it over all that time. Most likely, it would be my only forum (or my main forum). Kudos to those that still have their 2005 and older forums running strong.

Well, Chris, I think any of us would agree with this. :p

Are there any specific things you'd change?

Yes, that response was rather bland, wasn't it?

I'd probably have to say that I would revive one of my original forums which, unfortunately, no longer exists - at all. It was a music-related discussion community and it was insanely fun to not only manage, but participate in/on. Ah, the memories.

I would work on SEO earlier and avoid having to change my URLs.

Should have hired a professional person that can work on code instead of learning things the hard way.

Was not sure who to hire at the time but now have more knowledge.

I would stop changing all the settings I used to play with.

Designing the first version of the site my self.

Although I do ended doing the first version myself, I got someone to help me make the first version. He didn't do anything in one years time...
