Apparently Sitepoint saw the need to spin off their Marketplace onto an entirely new site, Flippa:

Flippa - Buy and Sell Web Sites and Domains (now in beta)

I always liked the proximity of the Marketplace to the forums: it was easy to check up on the posting history of a seller and get a feel for them. Though it looks like Flippa and Sitepoint will be sharing a member database there's no easy way to see their posts from Flippa profiles.

Obviously some heavy duty coding is involved.

    Looks rather lame.

I find the current Sitepoint structure very appealing to the eye and easy to navigate. Although it's generally conspired humans take a dislike to change, I find myself quite open to change but this move by Sitepoint hardly has me clicking me heels with joy.

I find the new site to come across very amateur and I feel they should have kept the simple design of the current Sitepoint marketplace and simply strayed away from the tab on Sitepoint to a new domain, complete with a more advanced listing system and a shared user base.

I'm not liking this, and I will definatly feel less compelled to visit such a marketplace if Sitepoint deliver an end product very similar to this.

Makes sense actually. Now they can have a distinct advertising campaign for the marketplace and build it into its own site. They previously did the same thing with design contests and 99 Designs. Before that when they wanted to sell domains they funded and backed DomainGuru.com.

I am sure they will be able to pull in more customers with direct marketing of this new site than marketing it as a part of the Sitepoint network. It will allow more auctions to be listed but will make finding good auctions more difficult. We'll see how it works out in the long run.

With 2 sites they will be able to grab more of the market, without competing against each other. I did this same thing with my blog and my forum. The traffic results have been pretty good for me. So I understand why they may have split the market off to another site.

And to be honest, I rarely ever went to the site point market place to start with.

I'm a huge fan of the original SitePoint marketplace. I don't know if I love or hate this new site. Personally, if I owned SitePoint, I would rather expand everything I have to offer under one domain. Even if this new site is going to necessarily be advertised as the "SitePoint Marketplace", I'd still rather just keep the one I had and make it better. (Does anyone know if they will be removing the original one or not?)

Good question. It doesn't seem like they will have any trouble with completely synchronizing the current marketplace with the new one, so I don't see the problem with leaving the current one there. Having the new site (outlet, I'd call it) just gives them the ability to market it separately.

I'm with Chris here. I don't like web 2.0 designs much, and this makes me want to cringe.

Not in response to your post, but you're quite mature for a 16 (?) year old. From Newcastle at that! :P

19, and I'll disregard your Newcastle comment! ;)

I did however, get a cheap laugh out of the following fake listing:
Site for Sale: Google — Flippa

Personally, I really like web2.0 designs... this one is just too big. Everything is large and it makes it a bit unappealing.

Ah, well I was 3 years off. :P I'm not a fan of Newcastle football, hence my comment, lol.
