Actually, I think Chris used it first - but without the "for different folks" part. He'd just say, "different strokes."

Do any of the choices in the poll have a thread preview feature like vB? Specifically MyBB?

I believe he's referring to the short preview description that appears when rolling your cursor over a thread title.

If I am not wrong there is a plugin for that? Which I think I might be wrong.

And I'm quite sure that this is not available as a default feature with MyBB.

Thanks, Justin. It's always great to have a "resident" MyBB expert around. :)

Nice. How well are mods like this supported by MyBB? (you?)

I am sure there are some mods not supported, but is this one?

I agree. I think it'd be neat to have a resident "Mentor" representative here from each forum script. They could have a title and everything, and could be referred to for questions and help.

Perhaps I should create a thread in the suggestions forum asking what other members think?

There are a couple large MyBB forums.

    NCAAbbs
    Yugioh Card Maker Forum

MyBB has some inherent disadvantages. It's newer, had a bit of a dodgy start with what some considered to be a shady model for mods, big-boards is no longer accepting submissions and doesn't have the software listed, and its mass user management is even worse than phpBB.

It lacks polish in a lot of areas, but that really is the kicker - MyBB is not designed with large communities in mind. I could not run Elliquiy on MyBB. I could not run it on phpBB either, but for a different reason.

Okay, I'll admit that's somewhat facetious - I built Elliquiy around the features SMF had. Likewise, I adjusted Blue Moon to phpBB's strengths and took advantage of MyBB features like autopromotion, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure MyBB can eventually overtake phpBB if it gets attention, and from there, SMF perhaps, but it still has a ways to go.

    Speaking of phpBB...

What are your thoughts on the fully-modded, completely decked out phpBB release packages? Personally, I find these to be horrendous - phpBB as an individual script is dreadful, and by adding hundreds of plug-ins and/or modifications into the mix, it's making things far worse.

So far I've always used phpbb for those forums I don't think will ever make it big, so I'm not qualified to vote in this poll. Of the options, which has the best spam protection?
