I would like to refute that statement; it's total bullsh-hey, look, a butterfly! Well what the hell are you doing here, you hypocrite? ... People with no sense of humor. Admins who are too controlling are bad news. Mathew Sibley (yes he gets his own space on this list). Admins who miss the obvious trolling (unless, of course, it's a board like Teh Source or 4chan where trolling is the norm and that's part of the pull). Admins who are just in it for the money. Mathew Sibley. Admins who hold grudges. Hypocrites. cwutididthar? (probably me)
Who shouldn't run a forum? Me. I'm dangerous, unpredictable and unstable, and would probably have shut mine in a huff by now had it not been for my co-admin who keeps me in check.
Oh wait I know you now. I confused you for Watty from IPB, but you're Mark B. You're Rikki Tissier's friend, right?
Nope, not me...dunno who he is. I'm just plain ole' Mark.B. I co-own a really weird forum that generally defies description and people either love or hate it. It doesn't pigeonhole easily.
In my signature for my Administrator sockpuppet on Elliquiy, I have "Those who expect service must first learn to serve." Anyone who gets the meaning of that line may be worthy. Anyone who scoffs, misunderstands or uses it as a vacuous platitude has no purpose leading.
That person should not run a forum. My guess he/she will be running not much of a forum before long. It is tough if it's a good topic and people are interested, but the forum management is making it a nightmare.
People who start forums for the purpose of talking down another forum, where they behaved like *** and were evicted.
people who.......... • are power mad and think cause theyre admin of a small forum, they are god • think they will be the best forum ever in just a week of being open • made their forum in revenge for being banned from another one for trolling • give up too easily • have a "really itchy banning finger"-like banning users for random reasons • break the rules they created should never run forums
I wish I did not own and run a forum, because I really do NOT want to spend the time doing it.Unfortunately for me I have no choice because of the serious importance of the subject matter. Some people who should not run forums are those who are stupid enough to make it possible for him to be kicked off and the forum taken over,by other administrators and I have seen it happen. The owner was actually banned, incredibly he must have given cPANEL access to one of the site administrators. :speechless:
Dedication and maturity are two big factors that you really do need to have to run a successful forum. Do you need know all the technical stuff? Nope. Do you need to know everything about your niche? Nope. Do you need to act like you've got some sense and put some real effort into what you're doing? Absolutely.
Anyone who's as a complete narcissicist for one thing, if you're obsessed with your own ego and can't tolerate anyone else's opinions, maybe just quit now and save yourself the mental breakdown and forum failure in the future (not to mention chance of ending up on a site like Encyclopedia Dramatica rises to about 99%). Oh, and anyone who purely runs a forum for money, or as an attempted business. Doesn't really work in most cases, since they're more obsessed with advertising, income building and marketing than they are in running a community, which in every case I have seen, has ended in pretty much a dead forum, at least in post count. I've seen way too 'businessman' type people who want to run a forum purely for success or money shut up shop overnight thinking that they can beat the top forums in the niche in a week with some kind of promotion smarts. Forums take time... Oh, and anyone with no interest in the subject. Quick route to a miserable end there.
People who are trying to remake the world in their own image - starting with their forum. These are people who don't tolerate other opinions, want only chime-in threads. People who use the forum to gossip, start and spread rumors, make up and post things about other people. Hey if it's on the internet it must be true. :wink People who enforce rules inconsistently, so the members don't know what to expect. People who think it is ok to troll but moderate remarks that allude to topics other than the thread title, even if it isn't a true derail.
