Well, they did tell you how to go about it, if you see what I mean. It's possible that if you & minions hammered away at GoDaddy you might make more progress. But honestly it sounds easier and faster to do what someone here already suggested - migrate the works elsewhere, new name. And the result is assured, whereas no telling what investing time in GoDaddy would get you in the end.

    Once again - good luck!

I know you don't need me to tell you this ... but in general for everybody. Don't take on partners. Take on help. Stay the boss owner of everything. It does not matter if the partner is family member or best friend or even spouse, things happen that no one can anticipate.

Anytime the thought crosses one's mind "what could possibly happen?" be afraid - be very afraid. If you don't already know the answer to that question, then there is a big unknown out there. :speachless:

I am fairly certain Nick has taken one step in the right direction and backordered the domain. :)

Yes, I have indeed backordered the domain. Next, I intend to do two things: purchase the .net version of the domain in case I need to temporarily migrate to it while settling this ordeal.
Then, I am going to report the domain I'm after for having invalid WHOIS contact information. The telephone number that my partner has attached to the domain is no longer his - it's somebody else's now. Also, I'm getting no e-mail response from the address listed - therefore, the contact info is useless.

According to this site, here is what GoDaddy will do (and I hope they do) if they cannot come into contact with the domain owner:
It's a shame that it has come down to me doing this to my own partner, but hey - business is business and what he is doing isn't acceptable.

Can't really help guys, but good luck with sorting it, this is a great site.

just out of curiosity, are the v.bulletin etc licences just in his name too?
If you did end up having to go down some other route, would it be ok to still use it or maybe have to get a new copy to avoid any problems.

vBulletin licensing isn't a problem. Although we don't have access to that either, we can just purchase a new license and overwrite our current files and then we're golden. :)

It would have never occurred to me to backorder the domain name then report the contact info as invalid to the name registrar.

    Keep us posted!

I think you're on the correct course of action, Nick. It isn't fair of your silent partner to have you do all the work with no support. It's not like you're out to damage the site, just find ways to keep it going.
