Account Deletion/Ban Requests

The way you've put it, you are absolutely correct.

All I can say is I don't bother because it's not needed. If you want your account deleted you most likely don't intend to visit the forum anymore. ...So don't.

 

i got an email from a member today asking me to delete his account.....he didnt say why, but im not sure what to do, cause i dont really want to delete it-cause the forum is only just under 2 weeks old, and i want to increase the member count, not delete one of the first members to join! i dont like deleting stuff, i dont even delete threads, i move them into the admin only section, so i dont want to delete a member! and i dont want to keep having to explain it to members (its only a small forum with 77 members, so they are bound to notice)

 

You run a phpBB forum, correct? If so, deactivating it will remove it fro, the memberlist, and can be undone in a sec. He will be happy, and if he changes his mind, it is a simple click. Of course, we don't delete accounts, if you want to leave the forum just don't log in.

Younger members (in particular) tend to become agitated when their parents tell them to stop visiting a specific website (it's happened before). Because of this, they will sometimes feel the need to "erase" everything they've done thus far for the sole purpose of peace of mind. By removing (or banning) their account,

That's the most intelligent spammer I have ever seen...

 

what did it say? that message appears to have been deleted. spammers seem to be getting intelligent now though, they post messages that make sense, but with the link in their signature

 

weird the spammers are getting intelligence!

 

IT IS A BIG DEAL!! For me especially!! I use my user name on many different accounts. It's important for me to maintain somekind of "decent reputation" online....So when someone "Googled" my user name fabulous, "what's the big deal" adminaddict has me listed as a LURKER because I'm not posting!?!?!?!?!

It's only a big deal in your own mind. No one really cares if you're a lurker or a mega-poster. I belong to hundreds of forums, but only participate on a handful - and only a very few regularly. I am not concerned about googling my name or what one might find if they do. I just ain't that important and, prob'ly, neither are you.

Important? Not in any way!! I am a an old lady that hangs with other old ladies on Yahoo groups...groan...I know...But trust me those little old ladies don't like people in their groups that lurk!! Maybe not for you but the "Christian old lady society" is a small group and they don't like lurkers. So yeah, one of them googled me and wanted to know what was up.....

 

Well, I am an old man and I'm here to tell you it is not that difficult to learn the ins and outs of virtual living online. This forum and other webmaster forums are an excellent resource. Maybe in time you will convince your fellow old ladies not to be such snobs about people who lurk. Lurkers are a valuable asset to my community. It'd be nice if they would turn into participants, but until they feel comfortable, lurking is just fine.

Just like Big Dan, I have a usergroup for these kind of people who are being troublesome and beg for a deletion of account.

 

some people ask for ban willingly if they think that they are giving their too much time to the forum...and they just need a retirement.........
in such cases i ban the persons bt i dont delete their data like posts etc
