Personally i hate to use domains with the word forum/forums because i think it makes the site so limited.

What do you think? Do you like forum/forums in your domain name? Why/Why Not?

I'm using "Boards" in mine and I'm okay with it. There are so many Disney-related sites online that I needed to describe what type of site we were. :)

I think it's a good thing to start with a more general domain name, and later on maybe expand to much more than a forum. Our community at EduPhil.org started as Education in the Philippines Forum, with the domain name EduPhil.org; now I am "rebranding" the site.

I generally don't like using either "forum" or "forums" in a domain name - for some particular reason, it just doesn't look right to me.

I've never used it, and wouldn't really want to.

Some people use the word 'talk' like 'talkcars' or 'talk-newyork' for example.

Thread moved to Domains and Hosting forum.

Ah yes, I have indeed used "talk" before (on one of my former forums actually - which was active as hell).

I used "talk" when I had the TalkOhio forum. I wouldn't want to use forum or forums

I launched left4deadforums.com. It was a good use of forums in the domain as we got the bulk of search engine hits for the forum search. However, it is limited. For example I have Rock Paper Nuke. The mainpage as a news source and a forum subdomain.

Forums in a domain name is tough to build on. If thats all you're ever going to have then I guess it wouldn't be all that bad. Would I use it? Probably not. I don't really like how it looks.

I avoid using the word forum or forums in the domain. The shorter the domain name, the better although I understand why they are purchased. I'd like to secure variations of domain names that include forums if only to redirect them to my own site or perhaps even sell them later.

Yes, it is limited. But I think if you know you want to make a forum and only a forum it may be a good idea to put the term in the URL for search engine purposes. It might also help if the domain you originally wanted is taken but the same name with the addition of "forum" or "talk" is not.

Yes I Know. Thats Why I Mainly Choose That People Asking For Admin Spots,
I Give Them A Moderator Position, As For The Admins I Choose Wisely, Mainly
    People I KNow.

  18. I've used Talk a few times. :)

I wouldn't use forum/forums though. To me it's so boring.

I oppose forum in a domain name.

Mainly because people will look at it and automatically assume it's just a forum - no other parts of the site, just a forum about the niche.

Of course, if that's all it is and all it ever will be, then forum in the domain name would be a fine choice, wouldn't it? :) Generally, though, I don't think it's a very good idea, as nobody can predict what will happen in the future with any website.
