What do you all think about in-text link ads? E.g. Kontera.

I really don't like them, but I think I've read that they monetize really well.
I find them to be really annoying, so I wouldn't be quick to add it to my forums... but if it pays well, it might be worth it.

I'm not sure if ads like this produce more income than lets say google ads, but I haven't exactly dealt with them that much.

I've had a little experience with them, but not in a forum environment. I had a high traffic blog about a year ago that netted me a decent amount of monthly income from in-text ads.

On a forum, however, I think they'd be less well received by users.

I agree Daniel. They would probably be much more profitable on a blog than on a forum. Good piece of info right there ;)

Thanks, Daniel. I was pretty sure that it wouldn't be a good move for a forum. I know I have seen some forums with in-text ads, and it really bugs me. I'm sure it would have a huge impact on loyal visitors.

One thing that might be worth trying though is showing in-text ads to guests. I haven't tried this personally, though I may. I don't know if this would have any impact on the registration rate, but if it doesn't it is certainly something one should consider.

Adversely affecting the registration rate would be my initial concern.

It's not something I'm willing to try with my forum yet, as it is just over one year old.
