I've only use the wordtracker free trial, but I find the results vary on different keyword tools. Some are very different.

I've never used keyword discovery. Usually I'll just use the Google Adwords tool. Not necessarily accurate or the best, but it gives me a good idea on if I'm using good keywords or not.

Google's keyword tool has gotten much better since they decided to display actual figures - they're the only tool I use now.

Any idea how accurate it is as far as number of searches per month?

    I dont understand your question.

Are you asking about trends in keywords? Such as myspace, twitter, facebook trends?

Or, are you asking about keywords that are related to your site?

I think he is referring to the specific keyword services:

    Keyword Discovery - http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/

    WordTracker - http://www.wordtracker.com/

I use the keyword tool in google adwords. I have not used any other tools.

I like the google since I use them for my adsense and my adwords.

    keyword research tool?

I love the "my brain" tool. Usually the first place one goes for suggestions, very clever. we find that combining Google's keyword tool with a few other services tends to do the trick most times. Sometimes though, you've got to break out a few less known ones to dig deeper or extend list you've already been building on. We have found success using trends. Key compete, wordze and tool we've developed for use in-house. Seems to be a good mix for us.

When I just start looking into a niche I use Keyword Country to get a boat load of details. However after I am in the niche I use Wordtracker to take a look at current trends.

I do not understand why people need these services? I'am a little lost????

If you know your sites topic, and the related topics, there are your keywords.

Why do you need a tool to tell you something you should already know?

First - it's all about SEO. Although you know the keywords for your topic it is a way to find out HOW people are searching for your topic. For instance, would you believe that "distance learning" gets more searches than "learning" does?

Also, it is a way to help you sift through the nomenclature of your topic. Now I know that when talking about e-learning in my blog, more people are calling it "distance learning."

I use Market Samurai for anything and everything SEO related for my sites. Best 80 bucks I spent.

Hm, I've never heard of that. It looks as spammy/junky as many other schemes out there (based on their website interface). Would you mind explaining some of what it does, etc.? I'm curious... :)

There isn't really a "scheme" to it other than you buy it once and then get upgrades for it free... I'd call vB pricing more of a "scheme" than that

Yes the website is hideous, but the product is amazing and saved me a ton of time.

Not only can you do keyword research, rank tracking and graphing, article submissions, but my favorite part is checking the SEO competition for keyword(s).

Here is a screenshot of the SEO Competition graph (red are strong showings by your competitors, green is that it is a place to take advantage of)

Kev, go back to the first post and look at the date, then look at his sig. This is an entirely different world than your approach. My approach is similar to yours.
