Do you include the full message text in your email notifications?

When I've launched my forum, I included the full message text in every email notifications so members were able to read the reply without having to visit the forum.

To increase members visits on the forum, I now only send a notification and members have to visit the forum every time they receive a reply to a watched thread.

What are your experiences those different type of notifications?

    Thanks

I stopped doing that when the spam got out of hand. Think about it. People have subscribed to email notifications to replies in threads they're following. Spammer comes by, posts some nasty porn spam. Email notifications start going out IN YOUR NAME with the contents of the nasty spam post.

Ah, that's a good point about the p*rn spam. I much prefer when forums send out full text for notifications, but if it saves me from the spam like that, I suppose I can't complain too much either.

For my last forum, I turned off the whole messages option. If they can read replies in the e-mail itself, there's no need for them to visit the forum unless they want to reply. So turning them off is obviously better if you want to increase your site's traffic and have members coming back.

E-mails annoy me, but I leave the choice up to the users. I try to make it as customizable as possible, and so far the users appreciated it greatly.
