Why does it seem everyone saves graphics in PNG format now?

I only use PNG because a lot of the icons on my forum won't worth unless saved in that format; I used to use JPEG but have gotten out of the habit.

What do you mean won't work? Do you mean that they won't otherwise show up because the board style is set to point to PNG images for the icons and stuff?

Mostly because programs like paint.net if you crop a background it has to be png otherwise the background will not be cropped when opening or importing the image, and i just think the image is better with .png format.

PNGs are mostly a much more high-quality image. Most computers don't need a lot of extra time to load the PNGs. It's just a lot more simple to just use the extra image quality in exchange for a small amount of loading extra.

I personally use .png as with Adobe Fireworks you can Flatten the image size down real low without loosing hardly any graphical elements.

Plus as others have said its easy to make transparent images when you have a dark background.
