Admin Talk has a shoutbox, top poster & other goodies!

Hello everyone,

I’m always testing new features out and seeing what would work best on Admin Talk and here is a quick update of a few new features!

We now have a shoutbox for active users and contributors who want to chat throughout the day. We don’t have any “general chat” sections anymore so this is a nice place just to chill if you want. We may at some point organize an Admin Talk Chat where several of the successful forum owners could hang out and answer questions.. Still thinking that one over.

We have something on the sidebar visible to everyone that should help increase post count; it’ll recognize the user who has made the post post in the last hour and highlight their profile along with a link to their home page. This is also for active users and contributors; I have removed myself from being included.

One other small thing is you’ll now see how many new threads you haven’t replied to up in your profile block, click that link and reply until it’s zero!..lol

I think I'm going to change it to the last 12 or 24 hours.

 

also since all contributors are also "members" I can't exclude that group.
But... new members can't enter a profile url so I'm not going to worry about spam.

 

hmm I'm seeing a good incentive to feeling talkative around here

 

I see a new update to the top poster mod, might be interesting to setup here.

 

anyway to turn off chat ? slows down forums quite a bit from my end

 

It should be just that homepage, I'll see what we can do.

 

I find its still pretty snappy.

 

So I see there is a way I can add a profile field which will allow you to disable the chat if you want.
I'll get it setup asap.

 

I didn't even notice the Shoutbox or Top Poster bit until I read this thread. Oh and look I'm the top poster for the Last 6 Hours However, I don't have my homepage setup yet so that's just blank meh.

The Top Poster is a really great idea though, I think it will help in keeping users engaged throughout the whole day.

I'm off to use the Shoutbox for my first time...

I've disabled the shoutbox until I can get the user option to disable, working.

 

Hey Brandon have you thought of using the ajax chatroom addon at Xenforo?
I know we used it briefly and instead of it being forced on everyone like the shoutbox, members voluntarily click the chat tab if they want to enter it or not(and it integrates perfectly with the site)

 

I've removed the shoutbox widget on the home page and will insert a link in the nav somewhere, for now you can reach it by adding /chat to our URL or bookmark this link http://admin-talk.com/chat/

Aw, that's a a pain. I don't use shoutboxes except in the home page. Could you not get the user definable option working?
