I recently applied for adsense for my forum and was told that I was denied due to violating their copyright policy. Through posting in their forum I was told that the reason I was denied was because I had youtube videos embeded. I use youtube's exact code when the videos are shown on my site so I am wondering why youtube even allows the embedding of their videos if it is violating copyright. I was also curious if anyone knows why google would punish someone for doing something that a site they own (youtube) is promoting? Any thoughts?
Yea, that's kind of a bogus reason seeing as they the owners of Youtube allow people to upload videos to their site with the express purposes of it being shared throughout the internet. They even make it convenient to do so by providing a share button for linking to other websites and social networks.
I find that kinda ridiculous and not really a good reason considering that Youtube videos are allowed for sharing. It'd be a different case if Youtube didn't practically invite us to do so. LOL
Nah, it's unlikely you were denied for Youtube videos. I mean, a whole ton of sites use Adsense with Youtube videos, my own included. And in some cases, I assume whatever producers of the reality TV shows you cover probably have an official channel to post videos from anyway, so a fair amount were probably uploaded with permission.
What do you think it could be then? Thats what I was told in the adsense forum. I don't see what else they would deny me for.
I honestly don't know. I'm just saying that about 80% of sites using adsense have probably used Youtube embeds and stuff at some point, so it seems unlikely that'd be the reason.
This is not just about full television shows. It covers just about any "copyrighted" videos. Problem is, the people that brought forward these suits are blaming the person for embedding the videos, rather than the video creators themselves. Basically, the person embedding the video is just "collateral damage." Nothing more, nothing less. However, if my memory serves me right: A judge declared one person not responsible for the video if he's just embedding it. For example, if you embedded a full episode of Dexter, and the video was posted by the company that made the episode/series, then you're not in trouble. If you post a [game] trailer posted by the [game] company that created the video, you would not be in trouble; in fact, these game companies see them as "free advertising." I can go on and on, but you need to know where the line is drawn.
No, there would be some short clips that show what I am talking about in posts and other spoof stuff.
You shouldn't have been in trouble, you only just embedded it. The creator should've been the one. I was in a multimedia class one semester, and she made a point to be "careful" making these videos.
I suspect that there's a bug in their software that detects Adsense-worthiness. Maybe it's just looking for certain keywords.
I agree it is ridiculous but at the end of the day what they say goes, not really much you can do. I suppose it could be to do with the things you are embeding? However it is a silly reason since they added the feature to Youtube. I would call them out on it but nothing much can be done, you should use another ad network. Sometimes I hate the rules associated with AdSense.
