So, what type of discussions/talk are not allowed on your forum? The talk of drugs? Violence? Sex?

Personally, we allow the discussion of violence, but not sex, nor the talk of drugs. But, what do you not allow users to talk about?

I'm just wondering where forum owners stand on certain subjects.

The normal illegal stuff gambling, porn, copyright infringement.

Political discussion is corraled in an opt-in forum. Other than that everything is pretty much open of discussion.

At my forum, I allow ALMOST anything.

Keyword, almost lol. Truth be told, I have to look out for the younger generations that visit my forum. It's a video game forum. So things like sex and drugs have no place to be discussed about at my site. Same with pornography or any sort of illegal copyrighting.

They're allowed to talk about just about anything, with the exception of things that could legally hurt them, another person, or bullying.

As in, they can talk about drugs and it might be implied that they do it themselves even, based on their knowledge....but they can't actually -say- they do any of them. I don't want them incriminating themselves on my forum. The same applies for say, planning a murder....there's no way I'm allowing details to be discussed, ya know? And bullying is just something I don't allow in general, so anything that comes off as bullying and harassing people isn't going to be allowed, regardless of topic.

They can say just anything, and they can incriminate themselves if they want. Afterall, I didn't help them to type, but one thing I don't like is members insulting other members.

Some of my forums have younger members. While I couldn't care less if a 40 year old wants to incriminate themselves, I feel a little more protective over the younger crowd who may not realize yet just how easily their online words can come back to haunt them completely. That's definitely not my responsibility, but I still have the rule for everyone's safety.

I have younger members as well and I know some members are into smoking weed, and such. I've seen them try to sneak-post into some of our threads, but I allowed it, and really, we have a mix of members as well - and most people aren't offended by things that our members post. Sometimes we'll get someone that doesn't like a thread, or post, at all, and asks us to remove it because its about them, screw that, we're not in the business for that, so we keep on pushing.

We don't allow the insulting of other members either, so I don't blame you. Anything like that gets you an infraction, and do it again, you get another infraction - after that, you're banned.
