I'm a BIG fan of Patrick O'Keefe and his ifroggy network. I actually got to hang out with him two years ago when he was our guest speaker for PodcampTopeka.

He's been running forums longer then I have and has some great info on his blogs. Defiantly worth checking out and it will help your forum.
I even have a signed copy of his book, which I've read over several times and even did a blog post on it..lol

Thank you for linking to that wonderful site.

There is so much to learn for this newbie forum owner.

I haven't had a proper look yet but I am looking forward to reading your blog Patrick.

Let's say one of the first forums I posted on is Karate Forums and I had the chance to work 'under' Patrick for a while, as a moderator. I really had a lot to learn. If half of the new admins would bother read his book or at least his articles, we'd actually have some better forums today. But it's not easy reading a long well written book, when you can just open a forum and hope for the best :)
PS: Patrick, no need to thank us for appreciating your work. You're a tremendous admin and person and we have so much to learn

Patrick, I've enjoyed reading a number of articles on your blog and have read the preview on Amazon of your book (which I think I'd like to buy) - but it was published in 2008 and I wonder whether it is still relevant or if there is an updated version?

    Cheers,
    Shaun :D

    Hey Shaun,

Thank you for the kind words on the blog and your interest in the book.

When I wrote "Managing Online Forums," I focused on strategy and not technology. It's really about the people aspects of managing online forums. There are only a few references in the book to specific technology. In general, technology changes, but good strategy lasts longer. Due to this, the vast majority of the book's contents are as relevant today as they were when it was released. (Thankfully. Heh).

    Thanks again,

    Patrick

Okay, good - I'll add it to my wishlist and give it a read, just as soon as I get some free time ...
