    Good evening to you all.

I was wondering if ".co" is a good alternative to .com .net or .org?

    Thanks for the info.

It's just as good alternative as any other really. I mean it could be considered better but there are some downsides such as losing traffic from people going to the .com because the simply forget or don't even know about .co.

Why not after all its TLD. I remember its a lot pricey compare to those .com and .net.
This extension would somehow be a good alternative compare to some other extension like .info or tk. however, I'm not sure if what people would think when they see a site with .co extension.

my fear is people with think i am retarded and forgot the "m" in ".com." Then they will go ahead and insert the "m" and go to the wrong site.

It is true they can be expensive. I haven't a clue as to why though.

Exactly. The better thing to do is to think of another domain name but has .com extension.
Maybe people here can suggest a domain if you can tell us what type of contents/services will be put into the site.

You can actually get .co on NameCheap for $12 currently which isn't too bad.

Well it is a good and im guessing shorter alternative. But its not gained alot of popularity and is still seen as a more "unprofessional" alternative

The only reason I would buy a .co is to try to get typo's of people not adding the m to .com.
I remember when they first came out, that was the big talk.

That's a limited time offer for new purchases.
Later 2012 I'm going to have a high bill to pay for all of those .COs I purchases due to their "special offer".

They should have offered the special offer for renewals too, :sneaky: heehee.. but that would not have made sense on their part and they would have made a loss...

Not many people have heard of .co though. It's most people's instinct to just type 'website.com', and .com looks better imho.

Don't you think that it's our job as webmasters to get the ball rolling then?
Tell a friend, let their friend tell another friend and the ball goes its merry way, ;)

Actually, .co costs 21.00 per year, the first time you buy a .co domain, however... You're going to need more than 40 to get ahold of it.
This is one of those reasons why I own a .co domain for my brand. I'm going to try and keep the domain for as long as I can.

.co's are being marketed as a company domain, as well... I think that's a good marketing strategy for the domain at this point. But as years pass by, when it drops it's own price, more companies will adopt it.
