Don't you consider it a kick in the rear, when you advertise your forum, are active, but yet get no results?

Like just a little feedback of "Good luck" and stuff like that?

Personally, with my forum, I haven't had too much luck in advertising..

Perhaps it's the dark style(which I can change up..) or the fact that I've only advertised on a few forums..

No matter what type of business you have, it is always a risk doing advertising. It seems like nothing is a sure thing. All you can do is as much research as possible on advertising for your particular targeted audience, and hope for the best. But to anser your question, yes, I would like to kick myself in the rear when I advertise and get no results.

Yep thats true, it gets me all motivated when someone tells me: good luck with your forum or site. And nice site! It encourages and spurs me to improve my site even more, further more.

I think you need to remember promoting via forum threads is only the tip of the iceburg. You will rarely find a successful forum, as in a truly successful one that has stopped at promotional threads.

Advertising isn't a pain in the butt if you get links from quality websites, and post a thread or two about your forums on an given community, or put your forum's link in your signature.

Remember though, users usually click signature links if they like the things that you post.[I've had a few people join my community through my signature].

Well in my example, even if I've been active or something, not much happens.

What does it take? Writing some long articles or reviews? :P

Yes it is like a kick on the backside, I have advertised on many different sites and can't seem to get any members.

Yes, I do not like it when I spend hours advertising and not even one person uses my site! That is probably why I don't usually have active members though, I think that if I advertise I will just waste my time.

It's all about the content of the forum. If people like the content you offer, they'll sign up. :) You also should try advertising on other things other then Promotion forums, try something like Facebook or twitter. :)

Well it is definitely a pain but think of it as an investment for future. The most successful forums online didn't achieve their success in a day and you shouldn't expect a miracle either. Stay focused and dedicated plus work hard and you'll achieve success.

You're right mate. Rome wasn't built it in a day, so a community isn't going to be built in a day. It takes time and a lot of effort. Sometimes members catch on, other times you have to keep advertising in order to get new members. I'd recommend you get a support us/promote us page launched for your community - that way users can advertise you for free.

Here's an example of a promote page: http://www.virtualpetlist.com/showthread.php/1263-Ways-to-promote-Virtual-pet-list
