If you are currently a admin or have been one then you most likely affiliated with another forum/website. Have you ever had a bad affiliation such as getting bad members from it, the person you affiliated with turn out bad, ect.
Yeah.. I have and it is part of the reason why I don't really affiliate anymore.. that and it doesn't really get you anywhere.
I've affiliated with one of my competitors before, and things went sour. Why? Our community was going through rough times, and then these people went on to send my members messages to come to their community and I was like heck no, removed their link and went forward. I don't see myself ever affiliating with any competitors, just blowing them out of the water for trying to compete against us
I've only affiliated or traded links with a set of sites one time and I didn't care for it. I also read at the time that Google would penalize sites that had links "on all pages" of a site,not sure if that is still the case. I don't mind sharing a link to my friends blogs but TBH, I try to keep the outbound links to a bare minimum on my forums. I also try to get brand free on any plugins I have to reduce the OBL.
