Is your forum or blog dofollow or nofollow? AdminBB is nofollow as xenforo makes all links in posts, signatures nofollow by default which I think is a great feature.

Comments on my blog are all dofollow - I don't get many of them in anyway.

Having the "nofollow" attribute on links posted on your site means that the Search Engine bots won't go to those links from your site, so you get to keep them on your forum and dont have to worry about them going to the other sites. "dofollow" is what most forums and sites have by default, so when a link is posted the bots will go to it from your site. "nofollow" links are best for SEO as the bots wont go off to the other sites, and will just stay on yours, you can check it by right clicking on the links and then clicking "Inspect Element" in your chrome browser, and in FF you can use Firebug.

    Example:

You're welcome, did you understand, or did I do a bad job at explaining myself?

I run a MyBB forum, so by default all links are dofollow, but however I use a plugin to make all links nofollow. http://mods.mybb.com/view/nofollow-signatures

Thats what I used on my last MyBB forum. It would be nice to have a nofollow feature on all forum software where you can turn it of and on.

Nowodays you should keep your links nofollow on the forums because sometimes spammers do surpass the system/spam bots mods for most forums. So, its best to keep the links sometimes and available for some user groups.

There's a setting in "BBcode" or one of the sections in Vbulletin 4, admin cp. So, it lets you set signatures as nofollow or follow.

OK! Some useful new information. Not often that I run across an SEO theory that I haven't heard before. When I'm blogging, I don't really have to worry about do follow vs. no-follow links on my blog cause ALL links on my site lead to either another one of my blogs, articles, hubs or knols or an affiliate program which earns money for me. I want all those sites connected by as many high quality do-follow links as possible.

I don't have comments enabled right now on the most active blog so that's not an issue.

If I were doing link exchanges, I would be more actively concerned about passing on link worth to the other site.

I'm beta-testing an upcoming forum so this could be an issue there.

Will have to put some serious thought into how to handle it.

I'm going to check the SMF site for a mod that could deal with this.
