Do you have a trash section on your forum? On every forum I've had I always have one, its very handy for moving useless posts and threads and archiving them instead of just deleting them and hurting your forum's stats.

Some forums decide to leave their trash section open, and some make it private, only viewable by staff only. On AdminBB it used to public, but I changed it to private awhile back as its makes your forum look unprofessional for making the contents of it public.

Yes, I've always had one to use to hide inappropriate contents/old posts from members as why do they want to know why old rule threads have been removed, etc. ???

I have to agree that having the Trash forum public is probably a mistake. On the one active forum that I was on that had a trash forum, they had a special moderation feature that allowed you to junk a post, which means it was seperated from the thread, put in the Trash forum, and whoever junked it automatically posted a post saying that it had been junked. It was extremely useful, but it's something you wouldn't want the public to see.

We have a trash bin on Chatting Time, however, it's hidden so only staff members can see/view its contents and stuff like that.

Interesting, I dont think any forum software has a feature like that by default so it must be a mod.

Well, I believe it was actually default, because MyBB has a feature where you can create your own thread moderation tools. I think it was just a combination of the possible options. But I could be wrong.

I have a trash section that's used for old/misleading/useless posts.

We also have a trash can and been using this method of storing bad posts for a few years now.

Yes, I use a trash bin for my forum as well. It not only keep your stats for your forum, but it also is a great way to go back for evidence when you need it. ;)

I used to have one, but I deleted it a long time ago as it wasn't really doing anything. I'm thinking about opening it up again however, it can help when staff need to discuss deleted posts.

I do have a Trash section on my forum. As others have said, doing this keeps my stats. It also can be used for evidence if needed for anything. I also have it for staff member use only. However, if a member needs to see something within the Trash, I will set their permissions so they can see the forum and read whatever they need to. After, it's back to nothing.

    Private trash.
Recently emptied it because we had too much "swept under the rug." Nothing in there was relevant to present-day-Wober so we decided to clean house a little bit.

I call that lying about your stats if you don't set that section to not effect them ;)
Personally that's why I deleted it until I could get it hidden from the board stats.

Most forums I have been staff on have a trash section, though I rarely see it public. My views on that are if your going to leave it public, what was the point in trashing it in the first place?

Good point, but I still see alot of forums making it public. When I had mine public my reason for it was that if I trashed a thread I wanted the member to see why their thread was moved there.

I do, but for different reasons to yours. 'Hurting stats' shouldn't be a reason imo, you're just lying to yourself.
I use it to review moderator actions.

Excuse me? Not sure what exactly what you mean Solidus, it would be nice if you would kindly elaborate a little more. I have a trash section so I can move posts there instead of deleting them and hurting our forum stats, what is there to lie about? Straight-Forward reason, dont have any other.

Every forum I own has a trash can forum, I use it to get rid of any old / unwanted topics / posts. But if it's hardcore spam I will delete it. I don't want spam on my forums not even in my trash can. A trash can, can be useful for removing a topic and the if you decided you wanted to keep that topic you can just move it back.

Good reasons Juice, I delete spam on the spot too using the spam cleaner xenforo offers, would never move them to the trash section either.
